Robert R. De La Cruz, M.D. Chesterland, Ohio A Dedicated Community Leader

"Dr. de la Cruz is an outstanding and dependable leader. He is
one to the foremost Filipinos in the State of Ohio who has always
highlighted the positive image of the Filipinos in America,"
remarked Dr. Victor Vitug, Philippine Consul of Cleveland.
In recognition of his leadership, Dr. de la Cruz was designated to
participate in the planning and opening of the Philippine
Consulate General office in Cleveland. He was responsible in
monitoring and coordinating the activities of the Filipinos in the
region.
The successful celebration of the Philippine Independence Day
last June 9th in Ohio was co-chaired by Dr. de la Cruz and his
charming wife, the former Carrie A. Aurelio of Bocaue, Bulacan.
The attendance of Filipinos joining the celebration of Philippine
Independence was acclaimed to the largest ever witnessed in the
State of Ohio.
"This is the kind of gathering I would like to attend. Everyone is
treated equally and is given the same prominence," observed
one of the community leaders. "Through the efforts and
leadership of Dr. and Mrs. de la Cruz, the affair was

tremendously successful."
Recognizing the outstanding performance of both husband and wif, Philippine Consul Vitug, once again
enlisted their support as chairpersons of the 1991 celebration.
Dr. de la Cruz is groomed to head the proposed Philippine Community Organization of Ohio which is
considered as one of the possible unifying factors among the increasing Filipino population in the Ohio
region.
In the past, Dr. de la Cruz was designated as Vice Chairman of the organizational committee forming the first
Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Ohio. In 1977 and 1978, Dr. de la Cruz actively participated as member
of the Philippine Folk Dance presentation during the International Events held at St. Felicitas Church in Euclid,
Ohio. He is also an active member of the Philippine American Society of Ohio. Notwithstanding his busy
schedule as Director of St. Clair Medical Clinic, a medical group he founded in Cleveland, Dr. de la Cruz is
always ready to provide both financial and moral support to the Filipino community in whatever project they
undertake.
As a devout Catholic, Dr. de la Cruz has been very active and supportive of the Philippine American Ministry of
the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. He has been a member of the Pastoral Council and theYouth and Single
Adults Retreat Committee of the Diocese. He has continuously been active in participating in the various
religious celebrations of San Lorenzo Ruiz, Our Lady of Lourdes, Flores de Mayo and the Santacruzan.
Dr. de la Cruz is the son of Capt. Anatalio de la Cruz and the former Josefina J. Rodriguez both from the
province of Rizal in the Philippines. He was born and raised in his hometown at Navotas, Rizal. He finished
his high school from St. James Academy in Malabon, Rizal in 1958 and both his Pre-med and Proper
medicine from the the oldest university in the islands, the University of Santo Tomas. He received his
credentials in Medicine in 1966, then he completed his internship and residency at UST's well-equipped and
modern hospital.
After completion of his medical studies, Dr. de la Cruz pursued his post graduate as a Medical Mission
Physician for PANAMIN (Presidential Assistant for National Minorities) based at Malacanang Palace. Later as
Staff Physician for the Private Association for National Minorities - also known as PANAMIN - for Elizalde
Foundation in Makati, Rizal.
"I wanted to serve our people so I stayed in the Philippines and had travelled all over the islands where my
services were needed,related Dr. de la Cruz. He was later Project Director of the Cotobato Floating Clinic, a
project of the Philippine Government to assist those in need of medical treatment but not served by a local
hospital. He also had his private medical practice in the Philippines.
In 1969, Dr. de la Cruz decided to migrate to the United States to enrich his medical profession. After his
Rotating Intership Program in Steubenville, he joined Kuhn Memorial Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi and
later moved back to Ohio to join Rich Heights General Hospital in Richmond. Prior to starting his own
medical group and owning his own facilities, he was a House Staff Physician for St. Clair Clinic in Cleveland,
Ohio.
Currently, as Executive Director of St. Clair Medical Clinic, Dr. de la Cruz is assisted in the management of his
practice by his wife, Carrie. "We have been working effectively as a team in our business , civic, religious
and family activities," related Dr. de la cruz.
The de la Cruzes reside in the fashionable suburb of Chesterland. with their two children; Caren, 20 and
Raymond, 17.
