Fe Esplana Patalinghug
Baltimore, Maryland
The inspiration - - - an  exemplary  Filipina who not only values and treasures
the rich Philippine culture and tradition but likewise promotes them.
Fe Esplana Patalinghug and her family prototypes the old values
and virtues of the Filipino heritage. Through her abundant
understanding and practice of the Philippines arts, Fe has
championed the culture of the Philippines in the North American
continent.  She has received international recognition for being one
of the leading Philippine Cultural Arts entertainers and
representatives.  Fe's repertoire of Filipino arts include ethnic
dances and songs.  She specializes in ethnic songs and their
renditions in Spanish, English and Filipino dialects. She is an
authority in Filipino folk dances and its choreography.

Fe is an educator by profession, she completed her Bachelor of
Science degree in Elementary Education majoring in Home
Economics at Far Eastern University. Her Home Economics
training played an important factor in raising her family.  It is
refreshing and enlightening to see children raised in the states
still practices the old tradition of kissing the hands of elders when
greeted ("nagmamano"). Fe and her husband, Dr. Carlos
Patalinghug, managed to instill to their young ones to practice the
old Filipino tradition of respect and hospitality to friends and
relatives.  Aside from being a full time homemaker which is a
handful, Fe manages to get involve in community and church
activities.  Every Sunday, she and her family join the choir of their parish church.  Her home is always open to
friends and young newcomer Filipinos who crave for Filipino cooking.

Very much a  doer and an achiever, she plays a significant role in Philippine communities and their
organizations in the United States and in the Philippines.  She was 1990  president and currently a board
member of Association of Philippine Physicians in America. She served as president of Catholic Women's
League in Catingan Masbate and is presently the vice president of  the Filipino-American Society of Maryland.

Hospitable and gracious, Fe Patalinghug accommodates to Filipino needs.  She uses her talents not only to
entertain and promote cultural awareness in America  and Filipino-American communities but also
significantly to serve the needs of Filipinos.

On separate occasions, Fe has performed several concerts to benefit the less fortunate children in  the
Philippines. She held a concert for th Ninoy Aquino's Memorial Institute in Toronto, Canada  to support for the
"Street Children Project". Another concert she held was sponsored by the New York Lion's Club.  Fe was the
first APPA Auxilliary president to implement Miss APPA Youth Pageant with its proceeds benefiting the plight of
the impoverished children in the Philippines.  Last July , Fe was actively involved in the fundraising relief
efforts for victims of the Mount Pinatubo disasters.  A charity performance with Asia's Queen of Songs, Pilita
Corales, and the world-renowned Reycard Duet was held in the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore,
Maryland for this purpose.  Another philantropic performance she did with Pilita Corales and the Reycard Duet
was to benefit the Medical Mission of the Philippines sponsored by the Philippine Medical Association (PMA)
of West Virginia.  Fe has greatly encouraged Filipino initiative and excellence in the arts,  through her
performance in June '89  at the Lincoln Center (Alice Tully Hall) in New York.

For her dedication in promoting our culture, she has been recognized by her community and  country.  In
December 1985, Fe Patalinghug was crowned the "First Mrs. Philippines of the Nation's Capital".
Subsequently, the Governor of Maryland, at that time was the Mayor of Baltimore, William Donald Schaeffer
declared "Fe Esplana Patalinghug Day".  The Philippine Ambassador to the United States Emmanuel Pelaez
presented Fe with Achievement and Appreciation Award at the Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Fe Patalinghug is married to Dr. Carlos N. Patalinghug, a  well known  physician in Baltimore, for 29 years.
They have four children, Maria Teresa, Carlos, Jr., Angelica, and Leo. #
