Lito A. Gajilan, Jr.
Jersey City, New Jersey
A Dedicated Worker and Leader in Socio-Civic Projects
When it comes to breaking ground and setting pace, Lito A.
Gajilan, Jr. is one of the Filipinos in the New York- New Jersey
area you can count on to lead the pack.  Having lived in the East
Coast for the past twenty years, Lito is one of the many immigrants
who have carved a niche for himself in business.  With his wife
Aurora Tobias, he owns and runs two popular travel agencies: RTA
Travel of New Jersey, and Gajilan Travel and Tours of Wooside,
Queens.  These offices are trusted names among Filipino
travelers.  Filipinos depend on the expertise and reputation of
Lito's travel agencies to assure a comfortable journey, whether
they intend to explore Europe, the Bahamas, Australia or return  to
the homeland (Balikbayan).  His has the only Filipino-owned travel
agency hereabouts which organizes regular tours to various
European capitals.  Indeed, his travel agency is a byword in the
industry.

But unlike many successful businessmen who are generally
apathetic to community involvement, Lito is one who is known as a
dedicated worker and leader in socio-civic projects.

The Filipino Express, a weekly newspapers for Filipinos in the
East Coast which he established five years ago, is a living
testimony of   his commitment to Filipinos in the United States.  As its publisher, Lito is at the helm of an
important component and influencial voice of the Filipinos in the area.

As the founder and moving spirit of the Philippine American Basketball Association, he has consistently
organized a winter league in the tri-state area for the past eight years, a friendly competition among the
Filipino youth. It is a league that has grown to be part of the Philippine milieu in New York.

This year, Jersey City witnessed the biggest Filipino celebration during the Philippine American friendship
Day festivities last July 6.  A thousand marched in a parade through the city's main thoroughfares and a
thousand more joined the outdoor fair in a show of unity and cooperation.  It was a first for the Filipinos of
Jersey City, this historical event was organized by Lito Gajilan.  No one was surprised about Lito's leadership
because by that time his reputation as a selfless leader was quickly gaining ground.

In addition, Lito is the president of the Philippine American Society of Travel Agents and the founder of the
Philippine American Chess Club.  Lito is also a former officer of PUNO and former officer of the Waray
Association, an organization of natives from Eastern Visayas.

Lito is a very busy business man; however, he always sets aside time for his daughters Arlyn and Christine
as often as he can.  Much more than a businessman, Lito is a family man.  Once a week he makes sure that
the family spends time together to nurture and enjoy what he values most.

For Lito, accomplishment is all in a day's work.  He is a man with a vision of excellence.  He would be the first
to say that he still has aspirations and goals before him which he is determined to accomplish in the near
future, one step at a time. #
