Nick Libramonte South Ozone, New York Philippine Ambassador of Fashion Art and Design in America
|
Nick Libramonte, is a household word in New York. It seems that
there is no major events in New York where he is not involved.
Somehow his artistic talents are always in demand, may it be in
choreography or fashion designs.
Before coming to the United States in the early 70's, Nick
Libramonte was already a byword in Philippine fashions for over a
decade. He was one of the few couturiers in Manila who
successfully set up his own fashion house.
As a top designer, Nick catered to the elite of Manila's high
society, and was the toast of the entertainment world, earning the
reputation of couturier to the luminaries. It was however, on
television that Libramonte gained nationwide fame as a host of
his own weekly fashion show.
Timeless elegance has always been the hallmark of
Libramonte's creations. Then as now, Nick opts for uncluttered,
classic lines. He is also innovative-as proven by his deft blending
of native Philippine materials in his creations. One of Nick's
unforgettable work is an evening gown fashioned entirely of soft
Philippine shells.

A versatile designer with universal taste, Nick had little or no trouble at all adjusting and blending into the
mainstream of American fashions when he immigrated here in 1973. After a short stint with Simplicity
Magazine and studies at the Traphalgen Fashion Institute, Nick opened his own fashion shop righ in his
own home in Ozone Park, N.Y. Nick's clientele is composed mainly of top professionals in the
Philippine communities of the tri-state area and as well as in the West Coast.
Nick has been well acclaimed in his field of fashion artistry by New York City citizens as manifested
throughout the overwhelming success of his fashion shows. He has elevated the image of the Philippine
women in the United States through his exotic terno designs. Nick has also manifested his love, concern and
devotion of his Philippine heritage through most of his fashion designs.
Because of these outstanding qualities, Nick Libramonte has earned the title of "Philippine Ambassador of
Fashion Art and Design in the United States." He also received the "Pride of Malay Race - Perlas ng Silangan
Award" from the Philippine Junior Science League in America and the United Asian Lions Club of Staten
Island, New York.
Determined to succeed in the fashion and design industry, Nick completed his formal education in that field
while at the same time attended the University of the East where he received his Bachelor's of Science in
Business Administration degree in 1963. "My goal was to attend and to acquire a Certificate of Completion
from all the top fashion and design schools in Manila and an BSBA degree all within four years," explained
Nick. "It was a very ambitious and difficult task, but deep in my heart, I knew I could do it." Thus, Nick's
ambitious plan of simulteneously attending two educational institutions paid off handsomely for him. At
Liwanag Fashion School , he acquired his first Certificate of Completion in Fashion and Design in 1960.
That same year, he went to Beautician Academy of Cosmetology to acquire another Certificate of
Completion. The following year n 1961, he attended Manila's two top fashion schools: Maffei Academia de
Artes de Hogar for Men's Tailoring and Design, where he acquired a Certificate of Completion; and Aguinaldo
Institute of Advanced Fashion and Design to accept another Certificate of Completion. Nick duplicated this feat
the following year in 1962 by attending two other Manila's institutions. From Slim's School of Fashion and
Arts, Nick was awarded a certificate on Advanced Fashion Design and Illustration; and, another Advanced
Fashion Design and Illustration certificate was awarded by Samson School of Fashion and Design. The
following year, Nick received his BSBA from U.E.
Nick's obsession to assist the Filipino-American communities is continent-wide. His "Most Outstanding
Artist of the Decade in the United States and Canada," award given by the APPA Auxiliary in 1991 speaks for
itself. Donating his time, expertise and own funds to propagate the Philippine tradition and culture through
choreographed presentations of things Philippines, Nick is always in demand when Philippine image
needs to be highlighted. "King of Rigodon de Honor" award given by the Ilocano Association of America in
1989; and the APPA in New York's "Czar of Philippine Fashion" award exemplify Nick's contributions. Just
recently, Nick was named "Most Outstanding Choreographer and Pageant Director" in the East Coast.
Nick is married to a physician, the former Edith Cruz. The Libramontes live in their South Ozone Park home
with daughter, Cherry Elaine and son, Rodney.
