Norma R. Manankil

Community Leader Extraordinaire -  Spearheader of Fundraising Projects
Norma R. Manankil who hails from Angeles, Pampanga, is a
B.S.E. Ed and CPE graduate.  She has been teaching Physical
Education at St. Giles School in Oak Park for the past 20 years.  
She has been active in the community since 1966; organized the
FISCA and Kayumangi Dance Groups which perfomred in
schools, churches, etc.  She was past president of FISCA, charter
president of the Chicago-Philippine Lioness Club; associate
chairperson  of the   Lioness Club District 1-A in 1976; and was
president of the Circulo Capampangan in 1985.

She was host of Eskwelang Munti on Channel 26; was once
chairman of the FACC Rizal Day Queen; pageant director of the
Miss Philippines Chicago, now Miss Chicago Philippines from
1976 to the present; producer - director of poster calendar "Gems",
1987 to the present; directs cotillions, Philippine Week Rigodon
and now the Best Dressed Women.

From 1974 to 1978, she was the social columnist for the
Philippine Herald, the Filipino Tribune in the 80's, Philippine News
and currently, "Beeline" of Via Times.  She was chairperson of
Philippine Week in 1987.  Grand Marshall of the Philippine Week
Parade 1988.  As Chairman of the Philippine Week and Raffle
Committee for 3 consecutive years, she raised funds for the St. Martin Outreach Center, the Mother Theresa
Foundation, and the Smoky Mountains in Tondo.  She was also chairperson of the Typhoon Ruby Relief Fund
in 1989, PACMAN chairperson  for the Earthquake Fund Raising, Phone-a-Thon coordinator of the Mt.
Pinatubo Fund Raising and also coordinator of Pinatubo Walkathon '91.  Recently she was appointed
chairperson in Chicago for the Abandoned and Homeless Children in Manila by the International Foundation
based in Iowa and headed by Dr. Feodore Cruz, a commitment she hopes to pursue intensely in the future.

Norma also operates a Catering business "Norma's Catering".  One highlight of her career as a caterer was
her selection by the Philippine Trade Ministry  to demonstrate native recipes during the JC Penny Promotion
on Philippine Product at Niles, the Food Tasting at the Philippine Consulate attended by Chicago Chefs and
Food experts, one of them, Mr. Chan, the Galloping Gourmet, and representing the Philippines at the
Restaurateur Convention at the McCormick.

Thru her other business ventures, the GEMS,  and the BEST DRESSED,  contributions have been made to our
less  fortunate compatriots back home, most presently the Mt. Pinatubo victims of Angeles City.

Norma is married to Conrad, a tax manager for Lindbergh Corporation and an equally active member of the
community.  He was president of FISCA, founder of Circulo  Capampangan, and past president of the
Chicago-Philippine Lions Club, and a well known emcee in community affairs.  They have two children;  Mark,
a Loyola business student and Dyan, a student at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
