Dr. Oscar Domondon Los Angeles, California Noted Fil-Am Dental Surgeon Represents Bush in Ramos Inaugural
|
When President Fidel Ramos was inaugurated as the tenth
president of the Republic of the Philippines, U.S. President
George Bush put aside normal protocol in his sending a
representative to attend the event. Other than the U.S.
Ambassador officially representing the U.S. Government,
President Bush sent Dr. Oscar Domondon, a noted Filipino-
American dental surgeon to stand in for him and convey the
American Government's best wishes to the new Philippine
president.
Dr. Domondon is no stranger to being in high circles in
government or politics. A recent delegate to the just-concluded
Republican National Convention in Texas, he considers himself
a staunch Republican since he got his citizenship in 1956. He is
currently the State Chairman of the Filipino-American Republican
Council of California. His active membership in the Republican
Presidential Task Force, CRP Central Committee, and the
Golden Circle makes him a lifelong member of the Republican
National Committee, and thus a frequent visitor to Washington,
D.C's major GOP events.
Dentistry, however, remains his continuing occupation and his

dedication to his profession has earned him the High Achievement Award from the American Academy of Oral
Radiology, aside from the numerous fellowships he has received from American and international academic
and social institutions.
His total commitment to his beloved work has not stopped him from helping fellow Filipinos in need. Beyond
mere charitable work through his civic memberships, as the first Filipino to be appointed Board Member of the
California State Board of Dental Examiners, he assisted dozens of qualified Filipino-American dentists to
become highly-trained dentists.
Characteristic of hard-working Filipinos who have achieved prominence in the U.S., Dr. Domondon never
forgets his humble beginnings. Born in Cebu City of hard-working parents, he finished his initial studies in
Manila, achieving a degree in Dental Medicine at the Philippine Dental College. Year before, he
distinguished himself in military service during World War II serving in the Philippine Scouts of the U.S. Army;
and with the U.S. Army itself in the Korean conflict rising to the rank of Master Sergeant up to the time of his
honorable discharge.
After the war, he earned his medical degree and started practice at the Manila Sanitarium & Hospital and the
U.S. Embassy in Manila until 1954. These stints paved the way for his immigration to the U.S. and
immediate practice at the Brooke Army Hospital Central Dental Laboratory in San Antonio, Texas until 1960.
Four years of work at Loma Linda University followed and since the mid-sixties has been a private dental
practitioner in Long Beach, California, including ten years of dedicated service in the State Dental Board.
Like most prominent Filipino-American professionals, Dr. Domondon has the on-going thirst for knowledge
through conti-nuing formal education, thus his clinic is adorned with his various degrees in dentistry earned
in the U.S. from notable colleges and universities such as Loma Lina University in California, where he got
his U.S. degree in Dental Surgery and at the University of Washington, where he garnered his Post Graduate
training in Dental Care for the Disabled.
With the rapid changes occuring in the fields of science and technology, a true professional must be kept
abreast with these developments. Dr. Domondon, a compleat practitioner of his craft is well-respected
among his peers in the various professional affiliations he currently holds like the International Academy of
Dentistry for the Handicapped, to name a few.
Amidst the whirl of his duties and activities, Dr. Domondon has been a committed family man. Married to
another dentist, the former Vicky de Guzman of Bulacan. They have raised their children to be responsible
parents in their respective families as well. And that, Dr. Domondon states proudly is a "real achievement."
