For nearly two decades, Dr. Camilo Alonso Gopez of Greenville,
Delaware, had somehow managed to quietly garner a lot of
achievements in highlighting positive Filipino-American image.
As one of the highest ranking Filipino military officers in the
United States Armed Forces, with the rank of a full colonel, Dr.
Gopez has the distinct honor as the Commander of the 2289th
U.S. Army Hospital. In the Desert Shield - Desert Storm

the Army Reserve Medal, the Achievement Medal, the
Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the U.S. Army
Service Medal, the Reserve Component Achievment Medal, the
Certificate of Recognition and the Meritorious Service Component
Ribbon.
The leadership and organizational abilities of Dr. Gopez are not
limited to his military activities. Inspite of his busy schedule in his
practice,he finds time to participate inthe Filipino community as
well as with the mainstream community. In 1975, he founded the
Philippine Medical Society of Delaware. As a founding president,
he networks closely with non-Filipino groups in the Delaware

region. A founding president of the Ding Kapampangan Medical Mission Foundation, for over seven years,
he spearheads the Foundation's annual medical missions to depressed rural areas in Pampanga --
performing free surgeries, free consultations and dispensing free medicines and supplies to the needy. The
Foundation also donates surgical medical supplies and equipment to various hospitals and treatment
facilities in the rural areas of the Philippines, particularly in the Province of Pampanga.
Dr. Gopez' dedicated efforts to highlight Filipino-American image are fully recognized by his peers. Aware of
his great abilities in asserting leadership and organizational skills, his expertise was always sought for when
they need someone with high caliber to lead their organization. He was former president of the University of

the Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA); former president of the Pilipino American

humility, meekness and charity. He is someone who can easily make you feel comfortable and easy to
approach, commented Danny Caliolio, a former awardee of T.O.F.A. who aggressively and successfully
lobbied for Dr. Gopez' selection as one of the awardees for 1994-1995. "Dr. Gopez is well-deserving to be
included among the illustrious group of Twenty Outstanding Filipinos in the United States and Canada."
As a Filipino, Dr. Gopez exemplifies excellence among his non-Filipino peers in the medical and military
fields. He belongs to several prestigious organizations such as: International College of Surgeons,
Association of Military Surgeons, Joint Committee of Military Surgeons, American Congress of Neurological
Surgeons, American Medical Association, and the American College of International Physicians.
