Rano S. Bofill Chicago, Illonois A Fil-Am National Community Leader Dedicated To Humanitarian Projects

Dr. Rano Solidum Bofill, a practicing radiologist from Man, West
Virginia hails from Western Visayas in the Philippines. He has
been active in the humanitarian efforts through medical, civic and
military organizations. Dr. Bofill is also involved in journalistic
interests through newsletters and directory yearbooks since
medical internship and up to the present. As a physician, he has
various interests and activities. His involvements in hospital and
medical organizations from county to national is recognized by
electing him as an officer.His church and religious activities as
well as his involvement in the government have called the
attention of both his friends and other civic leaders of his
leadership talents. From all those activities, he has since
received numerous awards and recognition from both the
Philippines and the United States since he came in 1969.
Rano as he is called by friends started his humanitarian
endeavor as a medical student when he joined the UST
Medical Mission in the 1960's. When he became the commanding
officer of a Philippine Constabulary Medical Team in charged of
five pro-vinces while in the Armed Forces of the Philippines in
Western Visayas, he continuously led medical civic action until
his departure to the U.S.A. Once in the States, he led free health

screening through the Jaycees and Rotary Club. His free health screening was even registered by the
Directory of the Health, Education, and Welfare Department in the 1970's. While he was with the US Army
Reserve, he received the Army Commendation Award and Army Achievement Award for sponsoring free
health screening. The free health screenings in the USA was included in the medical missions to the
Philippines. One humanitarian effort that he has been recognized by three national medical organizations
(American College of Physician Executives, American College of International Physicians and Association of
Philippine Physicians in America) is his free Nursing Home Sing-along entertainment where he even
performs all across America and Canada for many years. He helps in producing musical cassette tapes for
humanitarian purposes.With his musical talents he enjoys performing in various events. At his own
expense, he hosts free Karaoke sing-alongs and donates trophies to different organizations. He volunteers
to perform and entertain senior citizens nursing homes across the country and Canada. In one of the
medical journals, he was quoted to say: "If I can entertain just one elderly person, if one or 25 can sings
along, then I am happy." Indeed, his concern to make people happy through his singing paid off. His musical
calls to nursing homes won him the "Community Humanitarian Award," and was bestowed the "Physician of
the Year" from his peers. He has composed songs for organizations like PMAWV and Fil-Am Tri-State (Ohio,
Kentucky, and West Virginia). Dr. Rano's other interest is writing. He has been editor of yearbooks since his
medical internship. He started different newsletters or yearbooks of hospitals or medical organizations,
state or national.
Choosing medicine as a profession makes him active in hospital affairs(Example: President of Medical Staff,
Department Head, Chairman of Various Hospital Committees, etc.) He conducts CME programs in various
hospitals and would be the speaker himself (state, national, and international). He also gets involved with
certain research work for radiology. He has been president of various Filipino and ethnic medical
organizations and national officers in different national Filipino and International physicians group. He is
currently auditor for APPA and Secretary for ACIP.
He can sum up his education from Grade I to Doctor of Medi-cine as simply: Catholic School. He started
from Colegio Sagrado Corazon De Jesus in Iloilo City and graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in
Manila in 1966. So, he naturally gets involved with different church activities.
His unselfish services to Uncle Sam was evidenced through his military, county and state positions. He was
the first Filipino Superintendent or Clinical Directory of Hopement State Hospital and Hampshire County
Coroner in West Virginia besides jail physician in the 1970's.
Although he is a recipient of various awards which includes Who's Who in Kentucky in 1972, Who's Who in
America , Who's Who in American Law Enforcement, Who's Who in American Executives and Who's Who in
Science, Dr. Bofill claims that this Fil- Am award holds very special meaning and he is humbled to receive it.
He is happily married to the former Judy Libo-on of Bacolod City and blessed with three children: Lora, Rano
'Randy' and Mariju.
