Jose "Pepe" Lim Patino Los Angeles, California Insurance Executive and A Community Leader
|
There is an oft-quoted phrase that runs like this: "Every epoch has
its own hero, and every hero has his own epoch..." Heroes are
indeed shining leaders in their particular time. Their
accomplishments are beyond the ordinary. Their lives offer many
lessons that show defiance of odds in the way of success. They
are endowed with the passion to attain excellence in their
particular profession or calling.
Jose "Pepe" Lim Patino, born and raised in Manila and who
migrated to the United States via Canada, is a role model and
inspiration to the Filipinos who are striving and dreaming of
climbing the corpOrate ladder through perseverance and
hardwork. He has endeared himself to his peers and has
gone a long way to get away from the proverbial heap. He out
ran the lead "pack" to excel in the insurance industry and
maintains a niche enviable and worthy of emulation.

Pepe, as he wants everyone to call him, is a great producer in every sense. He truly believes in his work,
and works his plans. As a result of being goal oriented, year after year, he was consistently the top sales
representative for Olivetti Corporation in the Philippines. When he migrated to Canada in 1968 and joined
Olivetti, Canada, he continued to maintain his position as top account executive and received various sales
accolades from the management of Olivetti. In 1971, he joined Olivetti, U.S.A., and again, he retained the
title top producer among Olivetti's account executives in the United States.
Patino's rising star, however, posed greater challenges and led to options to expand his horizons by joining
a new field: insurance. He joined Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company in 1983, and at the end of his
first year, garnered all the financial rewards and outstanding awards of Provident Life. He received Provident's
most prestigious "Excalibur Award" for being the number one producer, and at the same time became a
member of the elite "McClellan Circle of Provident Life." With his consistent high volume production, he
became a member of the "Million Dollar Round Table", a group of volume producers with $1,000,000.00 or
more worth of sales productions. He qualified to be included in the "Court of the Table", an association
composing of members of the Million Dollar Round Table. But because of the volume of his sales
production in both life and accident business for Provident Insurance, Pepe won the most coveted "Top of the
Table" award, the accolade bestowed only to the highest producer among the highest producers for Provident
Life & Accident Insurance Company. Since 1984 when he first joined Provident up to present time, Pepe
belongs to the elite and exclusive "President's Club" of the company.
In 1986, Pepe was appointed as General Agent in 1986, and two years later, became a Master General Agent
for Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company. Since 1988, Pepe is a consistent member of the "Top
25 Agencies of Provident Life" among the more than 1,000 agencies of the Company. In 1995, and possibly
again this year, his agency, the Patino Marketing Group was named "Number One General Agent" for
Provident.
Legions of Filipino-Americans in Southern California thank Pepe for his constant efforts of providing his
compatriots with employment in the insurance industry. With more than 200 sales representives of the 25
General Agents connected with the Patino Marketing Group, Pepe is known not to have turned down any
Filipinos asking him for employment. He and his top executives are patient and generous in providing
neophytes desiring to get into the insurance industry adequate and regular seminars, as well as one on
one on-the-job training.
Pepe's hectic schedule does not limit his active participation with the Filipino- American community.
Sincerely concerned for civic and humanitarian causes, he is currently the president of the Surigao del Norte
Organization whose main purpose is to help the needy in Surigao del Norte in the Philippines through
charitable contributions. He is also one of the founders of Surigao Association of California and served as
president of the organization from 1984 thru 1995. He is a member of the Kiwanis International Club of
California where he always gets involved with various projects and committees promoting humanitarian
services.
Patino is based in Cerritos, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. He received his Bachelor's Degree in
Marketing in 1966 from San Beda College of Manila, Philippines. He is married to the former Loli Castaneda,
a graduate from St. Teresa College in Manila with Bachelor of Commerce Degree. They have two children,
