Sally T.  Acosta
Los Angeles, California
California Senior Legislator, a Super Achiever for 28 Years
in Public and Community Services
Ludy R. Ongkeko, Ph.D., of Los Angeles, California, a dear friend
of Sally writes: "When Sally Acosta was honored in May 1997 as
recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award of Uliran III under the
aegis of Event International,  it was a recognition of her
"exemplary achievements spanning 28 years in public and private
service."

Now in the fourth term in the California Senior Legislature and
having just been elected to the Silver Congress for District 29,
these are living proofs that Sally epitomizes the quintessential,
talented, compassionate leader whose concept of public and
community service hinges on what's best for government,  society
and people.

Her latest recognition as  one of the "Outstanding Women of
Larchmont"  came to her as a distinct surprise in spite of the
lavish praises by a mainstream newspaper,  Larchmont
Chronicle.  "I   never thought my humble services caught the
attention of this Hancock Park publication," she said.
A newspaper columnist,  Sally is highly sought as a speaker at special  civic and professional assemblies.
Her academic background is rich.   She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education  (major in Home
Economics) from Manila's Philippine Women's University; she has a Master of Science in Foods and Nutrition
and holds a diploma as a Certified Dietitian in Food Administration from Florida State University.  She is a
graduate in  Management and Administration of Health Care Organizations, University of California in Los
Angeles' School of Public Health.

Sally left a comfortable life in the Philippines where she was way ahead in being a leader in that country's
economic picture.  Her legacy is one of unparalleled and unstilted devotion,  having introduced the awesome
industry of packaging native foods,  including producing juices from the best of Philippine fruits.  Her
successful food pioneering skills led to the establishment of the  RAM  company,  well-known in its area of
specialization to this day.

There is never a dull day for Sally.  As long as she has the time,  she lends her all to various civic and
community events.  All the plaques and awards are mute testimonials to her service motto.

No amount of tangible awards can measure the intangible feelings spurred by one's quest for service,
according to Sally.  "One does not serve because he or she believes there is a reward ahead.  One simply
serves because the results are more rewarding when he sees  those who need help receive what they need."

Another recognition of her vast community contributions was her having been invited to serve on the board of
the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging.  This will be another avenue that will enhance the Filipino
American's presence in a body of national prominence.

A colleague in community service remarked that Sally Acosta's bio-data is ample to fill up whatever biography
books require.   She cited her effective speech,  prolific pen,  and enviable experience in government and
community service.  Characteristically,  Sally states all these are mere   tools because without spirit within
one- self to serve,  service can never be performed in spite of the  glories that  lay ahead.

Starting in the home front, Sally Acosta donated her town lot to the Rodriguez Memorial Hospital in Bacolor,
Pampanga, to  give more room for expansion.  As one of the founders of the Bacolor Association in Los
Angeles more than 15 years ago,  she saw to it that most of its fund raising income went for the  physical
structure of their elementary schools and other items of need for the town.

In 1970-74,  the Day Care Programs for children were introduced and Sally was one of those tasked to
monitor licensing by the county. Sally's efforts to encourage Filipino participation was instrumental in the
establishment of two of L.A. County's Filipino-owned Day Care Centers.#
