Lourdes “Ludy” Payumo Corrales
Baskin Ridge,  New Jersey
Super Active National Filipino Community Leader
President of the Federation of Philippine Societies in New Jersey
When we asked for help from Lito Gajilan, Jr. (TOFA ‘91), editor
and publisher of  Filipino Express, a weekly newspaper based in
Jersey City, NJ,  Lito immediately shot back a fax:  “I  highly
recommend Ludy  Corrales as one of the most outstanding
Filipino American  awardees.   She is the current President of the
Federation of Philippine Societies of New Jersey.” Attached with
Lito’s fax was a brief but impressive  bio-data of Lourdes Payumo
Corrales.

Indeed, one can not resist to wonder how a busy career woman
maintains a home, takes care of her husband and two children
age 13 and 15, run a fully staffed office and still squeeze enough
time to help the Filipino community in a grand  way.

“Ludy is one heck of a community leader who seriously works for
the betterment of the Filipinos, and constantly highlights positive
image for the Filipinos,” explained one old-timer community leader
in New Jersey.

Ludy came to the United States in 1973 to be with her husband,
Roy  C.  Corrales of   Narvacan, Ilocos Sur,  who was granted  an
immigrant status to live in this country and currently NJ State
Auditor for New Jersey.  Leaving behind a comfortable and secured job as Management  Advisory Consultant
with Carlos Valdez & Co, CPA’s,  Ludy quickly  familiarized herself with the trend of business here, and in due
time, launched the opening of  CLO Funding Corporation in Piscataway,  New Jersey,  with her as President
and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the mortgage banking corporation.

“I established this company with the Filipino American community in mind.  This company is promoting the
Fair Lending Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act to eliminate discrimination against Filipino-Americans in
lending practices.  Together with my partners,  we have helped  many Filipinos obtain financing for their
homes,  who otherwise would not have been able to buy a house due to credit, income and asset
deficiencies,” explained Ludy.

Highly educated in her chosen profession as a mortgage banker,  Ludy Corrales graduated from the world
renowned  University of the Philippines with a BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) degree;
a Master of Business Administration (MBA) majoring in Finance from the equally popular Fordham University
at Lincoln Center in New York City.  She is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Information Systems
Auditor and a licensed Mortgage Banker.

In spite of Ludy’s business taking so much of her  time,  she never refused to give back to the community
whenever called upon for her expertise.  As current president of the Federation of Philippine Societies in New
Jersey,  an umbrella organization of various Filipino organizations in the State, Ludy successfully introduced
many basic  strategies in fund-raising, organizing, coordinating and monitoring. Having an MBA and an
analytical attitude as a CPA, Ludy remarked: “Success is not in never  failing,  but  in  rising  every time you fall.”

Aside from the Federation, Ludy is New Jersey State Chairperson for National Federation of Filipino American
Associations,  Treasurer of Millennia of Philippine Art, Treasurer of Foundation of the Philippine Federation,
Member of Kayumanggi Chorale, Past President of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of
America, and various other groups.

The Corraleses have two children: Christine Louise (15), and Carol Lyndsay (13).#
