When the Paradise Valley Lions of the prestigious International
Lions Club was chartered in San Diego County in 1994, the club
called for a strong and proven leader among leaders to
provide the leadership for a newly chartered association
composing of various successful professionals and career
individuals as members. The name of a successful and well-
respected Filipino-American physician, who has been providing
“pro bono” medical treatments to many needy people since
1974, was nominated by its members as its charter and first
president: Eduardo Hernandez Manaig, fondly called by friends.
It was indeed a very wise selection and the best decision to elect
Eddie to lead the club! For six years after its official charter, the
Paradise Valley Lions has been garnering prestigious awards in
succession. Eddie has not ceased to come up with award-
winning projects. Just barely a year after its charter, the Lions
Club International in 1994, awarded the Paradise Valley Lions

aggressive effort in sponsoring humanitarian medical missions
to the Philippines, Africa and India.
“It was a fantastic and an unprecedented humanitarian acts ably

and magnificently spearheaded by Eddie Manaig,” declared Vic Camua of Glendale, Arizona, a 1998
TOFA Awardee who nominated Eddie for 1999 TOFA. “Eddie brought various honors and tremendous
positive public relations image for the Lions International in general, and to the Filipinos in particular. Eddie,
unquestionably, is an immeasurable asset to the Filipinos!”

the Philippines, and the following year, 1998, repeated another ”Gift of Sight” medical mission to Vietnam,

its international humanitarian endeavors.
For all the projects created, spearheaded and successfully launched by the Paradise Valley Lions Club
under the dynamic leadership of Dr, Manig, the club, in addition to the most coveted “Presidential
International Humanitarian” award, was also the recipient the “Club Extension” award, the “Club Lion of the
Year” award, various medals of merits, “Service Achievement” award, and the highest and most sought-after
