Eleno S. Monares
Edison, New Jersey
Outstanding Civic Leader and Entertainer
Known for his immense generosity when it comes to worthy projects
For  more than two  decades,  Eleno “Lino”  Monares has  been
generous in  donating  his artistic and musical talents.  Last
March 1999, he was  honored  and  recognized  by the president
and members  of  the World Medical  Relief (WMR)   group  based
in Detroit,  Michigan.  Evidently,  Lino in  his own quiet way,  and
without  too much  fanfare,   has been providing  “pro bono”
annually  musical entertainments to the World Medical Relief
group in order  to raise much  needed  funds  for the WMR’s
various medical missions and other humanitarian projects.

Fondly called  “Lino”  by  his legions  of friends in the medical
fields, more specially the Association of Philippine Physician in
America (APPA),  the largest Filipino-American professional group
outside of the Philippines.  Lino’s  fans are spread out all  the
way  to  the Eastern and Western  seaboards. His  incomparable
singing  style and musical  repertoires, are immensely enjoyed by
guests  attending  the social  events. Each time  Lino’s group,  the
FAME of New York perform they always mesmerize  and  dazzle
their  audiences. Lino’s presence  is usually  the  main  attraction
that draws a lot of the swingers and ballroom dancers  to  attend
a social function. “If it’s Lino Monares and his FAME group
providing the music,  then I will make an extra effort not to miss
providing the music,  then I will make an extra effort not to miss the affair. ”  remarked  an  APPA  member.
And   while Lino is well-known  for  his  musical talents,  his  volunteer  work and his dedication to raise  funds
for the needy people in the Philippines and  other distressed   areas  in the world are known only to handful of
friends.

“Lino Monares  is kind  hearted and  a  generous  person who is committed  to help unfortunate  people  in
need of assistance,” remarked  Dr. Letty  De Castro, former  APPA National President and a 1994 TOFA
awardee.  Dr. De Castro who has been  APPA’s  chairman of countless fund-raising activities,  including
APPA’s  two main sources of income, the Mrs. APPA  and the Miss APPA projects had always  insisted  in
using  the services  of FAME and Lino Monares. “He is one of a kind   and  humble  who wants to remain
anonymous when giving a helping hand to the less fortunate people of the world.”

The mainstream and Filipino communities in the tri-state region of  New York,  New Jersey and Connecticut
are  ecstatic when they listen and dance to Lino’s music.

Publicity shy,   Lino Monares’ humanitarian endeavors  are accomplished  in a  low profile approach.
However,  close friends and associates are aware of Lino’s annual  donations of medical equipment and
supplies, clothing, food  and toys particularly to the poor families in the Province of Surigao Del Norte,
birthplace of his wife. In  addition to Surigao,  he  spearheads  annually  donations of  food, clothing, toys and
funds to the indigents in Manila through the charitable projects of the Woodbridge School  in  Las Pinas,
Philippines.

Lino graduated with a Bachelor of  Science degree in Mechanical  Engineering from the University of San
Carlos,  Cebu City  in 1966.  The following year,  he pursued and completed courses in  Textile Engineering
at   Hong Kong Technical College,  and  took   his Master  of  Business  Administration in 1970 at the
University of the Philippines  in  Cebu.  In 1975,  he  completed  Industrial  Management at the  famous
Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Currently, he is engaged  as   knitted fabric designer  and  a consultant for product development  and
mechanical  maintenance of  knitting machines.  Lino has been affiliated with several companies in New
Jersey  and  New York since 1972.  Before he  migrated  to the United States,  Lino was  a  faculty member in
Mechanical Engineering Department  at  the well-known University of  San Carlos in Cebu City.
Lino is married to the  former  Luzviminda  Matugas  of  Dapa,  Surigao.  Lino is  one of the seven children of
Nunion and Inocensia Monares of Cebu City. Lino and his wife, Luzviminda, have three children: Ferdinand,
33; Cynthia, 32; and Maria, 29. #
