Nenita Cortez Baldovino Tamuning, Guam Successful Entrepreneur and Dynamic Community Leader
|
The beautiful and very picturesque Guam is now a tourist haven
with its beautiful golf courses, beaches and enjoyable weather,
Formerly a formidable United States Armed Forces base but
now with drastically reduced number of personnel, Guam has
been undergoing extensive and comprehensive restructuring all
over the island to entice tourist and business travellers to and
from Asian countries to include Guam as a “must” stopover.
To fully prepare for the anticipated “stopover” businesses
turning Guam as a desirable R&R site (rest and recreation),
Guam’s construction business is in the upswing and going full
blast. Modern facilities were developed and still being
constructed: condominium, private residences and vacation
spots; modern and elegant hotels and other living quarters;
beautiful golf courses designed by world renowned golf course
designers; public beach areas (which is almost the entire Guam);
modern and mega-size shopping malls; fancy and gourmet-type
restaurants and various facilities are still being planned and
initiated.
In the midst of all this somewhat “unspoken” frantic construction
and modernization of Guam, a pretty Filipina, young, dynamic

and energetic entrepreneur, Nenita Cortez Baldovino, is in its midst. On her own way and phase, in a span
of the twelve years, she established six restaurants and a steakhouse; established her own construction
company; and set up a flourishing seafood business.
“Baby,” as she wants intimate friends to call her, is a hard working and determined-to-succeed business
woman who took the bull by the horn, so to say, did not allow opportunity to pass her by. A typical
workaholic obsessed to start a business venture from scratch, and develop the venture into a successful
and rewarding result, proves that a lady, and a Filipina at that, can compete hand-in-hand in the business
arena. She proves that a Filipino business woman, a lady, who is witty, charming and pretty, when it comes
to the bottom line, can outmaneuver everyone. A distinct accolade was bestowed on Nita Baldovino when for
the first time in Guam’s history, a woman was named by her peers as “Executive of the Year,” a manifestation
of respect and admiration for her efforts.
“I did not realize that for the past twelve years my fellow entrepreneurs were watching my business
movements,” remarked Nita. “With all humility, I thank each one of my fellow business compatriots,
including my competitors - - if any.”
With Guam having close to 30-35% of the population with Filipino roots, it is not surprising then that the
Filipino Community of Guam is the one of the largest, if not the largest Filipino organization outside of the
Philippines. The position of president of the Filipino Community is a prestigious and challenging one, and
Filipinos in Guam take to heart to be president. Nita is being “pushed” by legion of friends and fellow-
business compatriots to head the community organization and effectively transform and reconstruct the
organization to conform with the 21st century challenges. She is currently serving as vice president of the
Filipino Community of Guam. She was unanimously voted by the community as the first “Ms. Filipino
Community of Guam” and in 1996, the Pacific Daily News, Guam’s daily newspaper, wrote a lengthy and
inspiring article extolling Baby Baldovino as one of Guam’s highly successful women business
entrepreneur.
Baby Baldovino --her other nicknames are “Phany” and “Nita” -- is very generous with her talent, time and
treasure, the 3Ts of a successful volunteer. She serves as vice president of the Filipino-American
Chamber of Commerce of Guam where she constantly and generously shares her organizational,
management and business acumens to her compatriots, the Filipino business people of Guam. She serves
with distinction and active volunteer in various humanitarian endeavors, such as the Soroptimist Club; Guam
Women’s Club, Guam Housing Corporation; and, Paradise Lions Club.
Nita’s success in business can be attributed to the hard work she put in all her enterprises. From her
hometown in Bacolor , Pampanga, Nita first came to Guam in 1972 as the young bride of the late architect
Nelson Baldovino of the prominent Baldovino clan from Lukban, Quezon. They had four children Neil,
Geraldine, Kevin and Rambie (named after her restaurants.) As a young widow, mother of four and a single
parent, she still manages to be highly active in community activities. For the past three consecutive years, she
is president of Circulo Pampangueno.
Currently, Nita own and manages three successful and popular restaurants known as Rambie’s Filipino-
Chamorro Food , ideally located at Guam’s three shopping malls. She also owns a seafood specialty
market and a thriving construction company.
Nita says she wants to set an example to the Filipino American youths of Guam that sharing with one’s
blessing for a noble cause is more rewarding than receiving any of the honors that a community may bestow
upon an individual. #
