A Woman of Unsurpassed Dedication,  Leadership
and Community Service
Hampton Roads, Virginia, has one of the largest and most visible
Filipino-American communities in the United States and Canada.
At the forefront of this vital community is a woman of strength and
unsurpassed dedication and commitment. When she speaks,
everyone listens. When she promises something, she delivers.
Quirina "Coring" Padilla combines humility with the unique ability
to lead  the community to achieve goals that will underscore  its
vision as an inspiration for future generations.

Coring is from Malasique, Pangasinan, where she attended
elementary school. She attended High School in Calasiao and
Northwestern College in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, where she
received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (BSE).
During those early years, Coring proved her scholastic aptitude in
achieving Salutatorian honors. She was active with the PTA an as
Associate Editor of the school newspaper, "The Voice." She has
also earned her Elementary Teacher's  Certificate  (ETC). While in
Virginia, Coring attained her certification as a Graduate of Real
Estate Institute of Virginia (GRI) and later a real estate broker's
license.

Over the past 27 years, Coring has excelled in every aspect of
community service. She arrived in Hampton Roads, Virginia, with her late husband, Pablo M. Padilla (also a
pillar of strength to the Filipino-American community in Hampton Roads) and their three sons, Raul, Gerry,
and Randy. She was recruited in the early 70's by the Filipno Women's Club of Tidewater (FWCT, Inc), the
oldest Filipino organization in Hampton Roads. She quickly ascended the ranks by becoming the FWCT
Treasurer and then in 1975, the FWCT President.
It was during her reign as FWCT President that she proved her leadership and helped bring to the Filipino-
American community a vision- The Philippine Cultural Center of Virginia (PCC). Along with several community
leaders, Pablo and Coring Padilla helped unite  six  of the largest Filipino-American organizations in
Hampton Roads under one "umbrella" organization in 1976. The result is the Council of Unite Filipino
Organizations of Tidewater (CUFOT). Coring brought the FWCT into the CUFOT. The Council's sole purpose
was to unite the Filipino community and fulfill its dream of establishing a unique cultural center. To help the
fund raising efforts of the PCC, Coring led the way in establishing a major annual event, the Miss Philippines
of Virginia pageant. It remains one of the elite  social events in Virginia.
CUFOT currently has 25 Filipino-American organizations in its registry. Coring was the first and only woman
elected as Chairman of CUFOT. She served in multiple terms as Vice- Chairman of CUFOT and has chaired
the fundraising efforts of the PCC for the past 12 years. Her tireless efforts resulted in the first and largest
Filipino cultural center in the United States. Twenty-four years after the idea was originally conceived, the
Philippine Cultural Center opened its doors in Virginia Beach, Virginia in June 2000. It has quickly become a
cultural icon in the region and a model for future cultural centers throughout the nation.

Coring's other past accomplishments include:
  • Former Chairman and Coordinator of the Aide to Disaster Victims of the Philippines in coordination
with the Philippine American Foundation in Washington DC.
  • Former  recipient of the  Outstanding  Women's  Award for Community Service,  YMCA of Hampton
