A New Breed of Filipino Community National Leadership
Van Gerard Dichoso, C.P.A. is one of the youngest and most
progressive Filipino-American CPA in the U.S.  With just less than
two years starting Dichoso and Company,  CPA, Inc.,  Van Gerard
now runs two (2) offices in upscale Beverly Hills and at the
premier Los Angeles Airport Business Center in California.  In his
mid 30's, he currently has plans to expand and acquire CPA firms
nationwide, with a roving eye for opening the next branch in New
York where his wife's family lives.  His firm enjoys a wide variety of
clientele with an emphasis on corporations and partnerships,
and its share of "B-rated" Hollywood celebrities and producers.

Van Gerard's involvement with the community has earned him the
distinction as one of the most prominent CPAs of
Filipino-Americans in California and Nevada" in September 1999,
presented by Governor Benjamin Cayetano of Hawaii.  In May
2000, he received the "Community Leadership Award" during the
Philippine-American Convention and Exposition, which is the
largest and most recognized Filipino-American trade show in the
West Coast.  He has also received numerous awards as former
officer and board member of the nearly 300-member
Philppine-American Society of CPAs (PASCPA), including the
"Presidential Award", the highest award of recognition given to a
PASCPA member before himself becoming PASCPA's President in 1999-2000.  Currently, Van Gerard is a
board member and Treasurer for the Filipino American Heritage Institute (FAHI), a California nonprofit
organization promoting Philippine culture through books and other literary arts, and whose board are
composed of other Filipino power greats such as Sony Pictures Senior Vice President Fritz Friedman,
Hollywood actor Lou Diamond Phillips, ad Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.  And lastly, he is
Vice Chairman of the Filipino American Republican Party of Los Angeles (FARLAC), a political organization
officially sanctioned by the California GOP.

Among his American colleagues, he is a member in good standing with the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (AICPA), the accounting profession's rule-setting body; a current member of the California
Society of CPAs (CSCPA), the state's largest CPA membership; a former officer and board member
(1996-1999) of the Society of California Accountancy and other legislative bodies; and a member of the
Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Van's accomplishments include writing various articles in professional publications and speaking in various
community events.  During his term as PASCPA President, he led the organization to be an influential and
recognizable force within the mostly white CPA profession.  He established liaison and committees for the
national (AICPA) and state (CSCPA) societies so as to make Filipino minority have a say in the
decision-making processes of establishing new tax laws and accounting legislation in the United States.  In
essence, he promoted a positive image of Filipino professionals with the skills, talent, an expertise to
influence the U.S. accounting profession.

In addition, he led PASCPA to work with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and a local nonprofit group to
develop first ever "Tagalog" publication of the official IRS Publication 1 "Your Rights as a Taxpayer".  Just like
Spanish counterparts, the Filipino community now has this publication available in Tagalog to assist Filipino
immigrants in understanding their tax rights here in the U.S.

Van's success is partly attributable to a loving and supportive family.  Born in Quezon City, Philippines, he is
the only child of retired Walt Disney architect Nilo B. Dichoso and concert pianist Josephine G. Dichoso.  As a
child, he grew up in the entertainment industry, appearing in stage shows and in the mid-1970 television
series" Fiesta Filipina" on Channel 22, which his mother co-directed and co-produced.  In order to pursue his
dream of becoming a movie actor, he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and renowned
modeling school John Robert Powers.  A car accident in the mid-1980s stopped short his career when he
had to undergo rehabilitation for over a year.  After recuperating, he focused on graduating from the Daniel
Murphy Catholic High School as a valedictorian and went on to graduate from the University of California, Los
Angeles (UCLA).
