Joseph M. Arzadon, M.D., D.D.S.
Falls Church, Virginia
A Pioneer and Chief Medical Officer of the Non-Profit
Medical Mission Organization, MISSION OF MERCY USA
Joseph Arzadon, a maxillofacial and cosmetic surgeon, is one of
the pioneers and the Chief Medical Officer of the non-profit
medical mission organization, Mission of Mercy USA.  After
finishing his residency in 1996, he joined a medical mission to
the Philippines providing cleft lip and palate repair.  The
overwhelming number of underprivileged children with facial
deformity inspired him to return to the Philippines annually having
personally treated of 200 children.  After returning from a medical
mission in 2000, he was asked by the president of Circulo
Pampangueno to organize and head a medical mission to
Pampanga, and the Mission of Mercy USA (Philippine-American
Medical Mission of Metropolitan Washington, DC, Inc.) was born.
The mission was successful in reaching out and trating over
2,000 patients overy 5 days in February 2001; for some, it was
dubbed “mission accomplished” as Joe met Cathy, his future
wife.  Cathy (Panlilio) is a pediatrician in the Philippines and had
worked closely with Joe during the missions.  Cathy is also the
founder of Project Munting Ngiti, a small non-profit organization,
which provides free medical care and surgery to underserved
children in the Philippines.

Born in Moncada, Tarlac, Joe and his sibling were brought to the
United States by his parents in 1973. He attended Parklawn Elementary School, Glasgow Intermediate
School, Jeb Suart High School, George Mason University and George Washington University.  He later
graduated summa cum laude from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, earned his Medical degree from
University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and after a year of General Surgery, he completed his residency
in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Connecticut Health Center.  Joe returned to Northern
Virginia in 1996, and after working as an associate for one year, he started his own private practice in
Arlington, Virginia.  After 3 years, the second office was opened in Gainesville, Virginia, and a year later, he
also opened The Spa Clinic, a medical spa located in Gainesville.

Joe is the youngest of four children.  His parents, John and Yolanda, emigrated to the United States in 1969 in
search of better opportunities for their children.  After 3 years, the 3 younger children (Quirino, Jhett, and Joe)
were reunited with their parents, followed by the oldest son (Reynaldo) a few years later.  The family has
always been actively involved in the Filipino community, with Joe’s parents having been officers in various civic
and cultural organizations.  Since 2000, Joe and his family have been volunteers in different capacities for the
Mission of Mercy USA.  As one volunteer said, “the family that does missions together stays together.”

Joe and Cathy recently married and are expecting their first child.  They live in Falls Church, Virginia where Joe
spends most of his free time on hi koi ponds and garden.
