Devotion to a Lifetime of Community and Public Service
Diaz is a columnist and writer, a businessman, a community
leader, an a political activist.  He has devoted many years of his
life to community and public service.  He serveds as
commissioner of the Sacramento Human Rights and Fair
Housing Commission from 1983 to 1985 and a board member of
the South Sacramento Area Community Planning Advisory
Council from 1988 to 1990.  In 1987, Diaz was appointed by
Governor George Deukmejian as Assistant Director for External
Affairs in the California Department of Rehabilitation.  He served
in that position until 1991.

In 1990, Diaz was appointed by President George H. W. Bush to
the US Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance
Board.  The board was responsible for developing the regulations
that implemented the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
known as the civil rights act for people with disabilities.  Diaz
served on the board until 1996.
Diaz has been a community leader for the most part of the past 25 years.  He served as President of the
Filipino Community of Sacramento and Vicinity, Inc., President of the Filipino-American Chamber of
Sacramento, President of the St. Ignatius School

Parents Club, President of the A-R Toastmasters Club, Area Governor of Toastmasters International District
39, President of the Valley Hi Lions Club, Secretary of the Sacramento Jaycees, and Community Service
Director of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove.  He also served as Vice-President/Treasurer of the International
Leadership Foundation form 2001 to 2004.

Diaz was involved in Republican politics for the past 21 years.  In 1983 he was a founding member of the
Filipino-American Republican Council of California.  He served as its State Chairman from 1989 to 1990 and
again from 2002 to present.  He also served as President of the Filipino Political Action Coalition from 1984 to
1985.  In 2002, Diaz founded the National Federation of Filipino-American Republicans (NFFAR).  The
Federation has 13 state Filipino-American affiliates which comprise about 80% of the Filipino-American
population.  He serves as the National Chairman of the Executive Council of NFFAR.

As a businessman, Diaz is also involved with various chambers of commerce.  He was a founding member of
the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of Sacramento and Vicinity.  He served in various capacity
including President and Executive Director.  He is a lifetime member of the chamber.  Diaz is also a member
of the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce and serves as a member of its Business Advisory
Council.  He is also a member of the Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce.

During the past year, Diaz has started writing opinion columns in several publication.  He writes a weekly
column called “Perryscope”  which appears in Ang Panahon (Northern California), Mega Scenes (Midwest
US). Filipino American Journal (Southwest US), Ang Peryodiko (Los Angeles).  His column is also published
periodically on several other publications.  In addition, he is a contributing writer for Filipinas Magazine, a
nationally distributed monthly magazine.  His “Grapevine” column appears bi-monthly.  He also writes a
monthly column for Philippine Fiesta called “Balitang Kutsero.”  He also publishers BALITA-USA, an Internet
newsletter for Filipinos.

Diaz is currently serving on the Sacramento Sheriff’s Citizens Advisory Board.  He is a Realtor and a home
builder.  He is married to the former Dolores Valdez for 34 years.  They have two daughter, Lara, the elder, is a
lawyer and works as a lobbyist in Sacramento.  Andrea, the younger, works as the Marketing Design Director
of a –Sacramento-based magazine.#
