Dr. Vicenta P. Galapon-Marquez Dedicated Community Leader.

Dr. Vicenta Galapon-Marquez was born and raised in a barrio of
San Jose Sur, Mallig, Isabela. Her dad was a farmer and teacher,
whilst her mom was a homemaker. At the age of 3, her dad and a
handful of Protestant converts started a Methodist Church. Her
whole family was brought up in this Christian faith. When Dr.
Marquez was in the 6th grade, her dad and four of his friends
established a high school, the Western Isabela Academy, and
she graduated there in 1958. She took her Pre-Medicine at the
University of the Philippines Class of 1962 and pursued the
medical field, College of Medicine at the same university Class of
1967.
Dr. Marquez served her Residency in Pediatrics at the Philippine
General Hospital, Manila for two years. She was a Neurology
Fellow, Hospital China Medical Board from 1978 to June 1979.
She came to the United States under the Medical Exchange
Program. Her husband and 2 children later followed after 18
months. Under the provision of Visa Waiver, they decided to stay
in the USA after her training.
She finished her postgraduate training in Rotating Internship at
Chester Co. Hospital, West Chester, PA- July 1969 to June 1970;

Residency Pediatrics, Wilmington Medical Center, Delaware,- July 1970 to June 1972; House Physician of St.
Francis Hospital in Wilmington, DE. She received her Delaware licensure in 1973 and Diplomate American
Board Pediatrics in 1982.
In 1973, they chose to relocate in Smyrna, Delaware which has a small hometown atmosphere. Smyrna has
been their home ever since. She started a solo family medical practice in September of 1973. She was the
first Minority Woman Member, appointed by the Governor of Delaware Board of Medical Practice. Likewise, Dr.
Marquez was the elected President of the Association of Philippine-American Physicians of Delaware. From
1975 to 1995, she was the Medical Advisor of Head Start Program and Member Advisory Board of the
Medicaid Program in Delaware. Dr. Marquez was very active and became president of the Smyrna Medical
Associates Primary Care Medical Group Practice, July 1998 to Dec. 2002.
Twenty-five years later after she started her solo family medical practice, she invited partners to join her in
1998. She is currently working at her office one day a week since September 2003 and she got busy with
endeavors. Her current positions are:

Center, Dover, DE
Dr. Marquez was a recipient of the 1990 Syrna Clayton Community Great Person Award; 1995 Delaware Merit
Mother of the Year; 2003 Mother of the Year of the Filipino American Association of PHILA; 2003 Community
service Award if Circulo Pilipino.
She is an active member of the Civic and Church organizations namely:

She also rendered her services to Medical Missions to the Philippines in Feb. 2000, Ilagan, Isabela; Feb.
2003 Bangued, Abra;and April 2004 Mallig, Isabela.
Her greates inspirations are her parents who are both hardworking, honest, humble, kind and always sharing
what little things they have. As a Rainbow girl, she was impressed on that to be a good woman, you must first
be a good daughter, second a good mother, third a good wife, fourth a good friend, and last a good neighbor/
a leader in your Creator’s talent. She says,”I thank God for His guidance as I go through these passages.
There’s a lot more to be done. Hopefully, with good health, the work will go on. Let us live a little, love enough
and laugh a lot.”
She is married to Avelino Cadiz Marquez and are blessed with three children namely: Ma. Stella G. Marquez-
Ng- BS Chem/ MBA (husband: Steven Wendy Polham Ng); Paul G. Marquez- CPA, CMA (wife: Wendy
Rothman); Roland G. Marquez, BS/MS Biology; and three grandchildren namely: Natalie M. Ng, Brian
Fitzgerald and Kevin Fitzgerald.#
