Dr. Yolanda B. Trunkenbrodt, Major, USAF (Ret) Dayton, Ohio A Lifetime of Military and Civic Service

Dr. Truckenbrodt was borni in Manila, Philippines; the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Nestor Leynes Javier of Naic, Cavite, and Zenaida
Bernabe Javier of Norzagaray, Bulacan. She graduated with a
Bachelor of Arts at Far Eastern University, Manila, and came to the
United States in 1972. She attended Roosevelt University,
Chicago, before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1974.
She earned an Associate in Applied Science, Master of Business
Administration, Master of Public Administration, and Doctor of
Public Administration degrees while serving in the military.
Yolanda embodies the military’s credo of the “whole-person
concept” - she excelled in her professional career, participated in
base-sponsored social and sports activities, pursued graduate
and post-graduate studies for self-development, and volunteered
in the community. She advanced through the ranks as an enlister
(Airman), and retired as an officer (Major).

understanding of cultural diversity. This was due to her intense pride of her Filipino heritage, which greatly
deepened her personal interests to share to the community, an increased awareness and appreciation of
Asian-American cultures.
Her military career encompassed varied positions of leadership as a Program Manager. She was
responsible for research, development, acquisition and deployment of complex and highly technical weapon
systems. She led the KC-135 Tanker Fleet Reengine Program’s environmental subsystems, flight and fuel
systems. She managed the acquisition of Electronic Warfare’s Tactical Threat Simulators, which stimulates
several surface-to-air missile systems. She implemented modernizations to the fleet of 34 Airborne Warning
and Control Systems (E-3) aircraft. Her last assignment was at Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command,
Ohio, where she was a Program Analyst for Ballistic Missile Defense System. She also served as a
Congressional Liaison Officer between the Command and Members of Congress and their staff. She
formulated legislative strategy for Secretary of the Air Force, prepared Commander’s testimonies to
Congress, and was the focal point for congressional inquiries and hearings.
Equally, she is an accomplished athlete. She is the recipient of many awards from Ohio River Road Runners
Club and Ohio Summer Biathlons Association. She has completed all the United States Air Force Marathon
since its inaugural, and the 23rd Marine Corps Marathon. She won 2nd place overall at the 4th International
Run, Great Wall, China, and hold the record as the first American to win the half-marathon event. She
competes in Summer Biathlons (running/rifle marksmanship) and was the winner of the 2002 Championship
Cup (age division).
In addition to her numerous military medals, professional and academic honors, and community civic service
awards, she received the 1987 Okaloosa County, Florida, Career Woman of the Year Award; National History
Month Honoree of the Florida Federal Women’s Program; and inducted in the Sigma Beta Delta International
Honor Society. She has published opinion pieces and research articles in academic journals, military
newspapers and magazines, and is a charter member of Women in Military Service for America Memorial.
She was honored during the Homecoming Week by her alma mater, Angelo State University, Texas, as the
2002 Distinguished ROTC Alumnus of the Year, for her professional and civic lifework. As a cadet, she won
the following awards: Best Drilled Flight (Drill Commandant), Arnold Air Society Outstanding Pledge, and the
Leadership Award. She is listed in the 1983 Outstanding Young Women of America and the 2002 Who’s Who
in the World.
Presently, she is a part-time business management consultant. She is an active Volunteer Income Tax
Preparer for low-income retirees, widows and senior citizens at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. She is
also a volunteer reading tutor at a local area elementary school.
She is married to Edmund Truckenbrodt of Green Bay, Wisconsion.
