Bayani L. Manalo Falls Church, Virginia "If he can do it... i can do it too!"

Bayani Manalo hails from Pasig, Rizal, Philippines, his
birthplace, where he completed his elementary and
secondary education. Upon his graduation from high
school in 1968, he entered the School of Medicine from the
University of the Philippines, and completed his medical
degree in May of 1967. He subsequently left for the U.S. in
June of 1967 in order to pursue his post-doctoral training
and specialization in his chosen field of endeavors at
Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Having
focused his clinical specialization in the field of
gastroenterology and internal medicine, he is certified as
Diplomate by both the American Board of Gastroenterology
and Internal Medicine. In 1973, he opened his private
practice of Gastroenterology in Falls Church, Va. As
such, he is currently the Chief of Gastroenterology at the
Northern Virginia Community Hospital in Arlington, Va. In
tandem, he is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of
Medicine in Georgetown University School of Medicine
since 1986.
Dr. Manalo, among other accolades, was a Fellow at the
American College of Gastroenterology as well as the
American College of Physicians. Licensed to practice in

Virginia and the District of Columbia, he enjoys staff privileges at Inova Fairfax and Inova Alexandria
Hospitals, the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington as well as the Northern Virginia Community
Hospital.
In his vast experience as a Gastroenterologist, it is no wonder that Dr. Manalo is a well-sought after
invited by medical groups to deliver countless lectures dealing with the whole gamut and intricate
aspects of gastroenterology and other related diseases. Having said that, it would be appropriate at
this juncture to delve into the other activities of Dr. Manalo, with special emphasis on community
services.
Dr. Bayani Manalo, among other participatory projects proudly counts his having headed a medical
mission to indigent provinces in the Philippines, sponsored by the PMA and "Feed the Hungry", as one
of the highlights of his services, which commenced in January 2003 , 2005 through 2006. Other
affiliations and positions he held, to name some are as follows: Organizer and moderator in Four Health
Symposia given to the General public in D.C. for the years 2002—2004, held in different locales; Former
President of the Philippines Alumni Association of D.C., MD. and VA; Former President of the Philippine
Medical Association of Metropolitan Washington; Chairman of the Board of Tanghalang Pilipino, a
cultural association; Past Editor of "The Manila Mail" medical column, a well-circulated and popular
Filipino-American newspaper in the D.C. metropolitan area ; Moderator of a symposium entitled
"Effective Delivery of Medical Missions in the Philippines", held last November 20, 2005.
As a recipient of community service awards, a coveted one named "Dakila Award" (means Noble Award)
was given by the Philippine American Foundation for Charities in October 2003, with Dr. Manalo being
the first physician awardee.
In October 2004, Dr. Manalo was selected as one of the TOFA (Twenty Outstanding Filipino
Americans) but due to some unavoidable circumstance, he was not able to accept the award. This year,
Dr. Manalo will formally receive the aforementioned award Dr.Bayani Manalo is married to Ursula
(Sol) and they have three children, Minna (34), Mark (31) and Jay (26). They also have a cute
granddaughter, Emma.
Dr. Manalo lists his hobbies as Tennis (winning as Champion at the Fairfax County Medical
Society Tennis Tournament in 1990), Ballroom Dancing, and Gardening. “If he can do it, I can do it
too” is Dr. Manalo’s favorite quotation.
Needless to say, Dr. Bayani Manalo has achieved whatever goals he set his sights on and with great
aplomb, humility and dedication -- positive image for "success"!
