Tristan S. Briones
United States Army Reserve Colonel and  Medical Director
Dr. Tristan S. Briones was born in Sagnay Camarines Sur
Philippines to the parents of Jose C. Briones, M.D. a physician
and Elena Sta.Elena Briones a lawyer. He is the eldest of three
sisters and one brother. He is married to Dr. Melba Calderon
Briones, who is the Medical Director of the Evansville State
Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. They have five children of whom
all five are physicians. Dr. Briones enjoys spending time with his
six grandchildren.

He attended Ateneo de Naga High School and went to Far
Eastern University for Pre-medical education. He went on to get
his Doctorate of Medicine degree from Manila Central University
in 1966. He completed his undergraduate rotating internship at
Jose R. Reyes Memorial Hospital in Manila. He was in private practice in the Philippines until 1969.
 
He arrived in the United States on May 31, 1969.  He practiced as an Emergency Room and Staff
physician throughout several states in the U.S. including Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.  After
a rotating internship at Grant Hospital in Columbus Ohio he joined the United States Air Force in
August of 1975 where he was General Medical Officer at Rickenbacker Air Force Base in Ohio. He
went on to do his Radiation Oncology Residency at the Ohio State University Hospitals in
Columbus, Ohio where he was Chief Resident from 1979 to 1980 under the sponsorship of the
United States Air Force. From 1980 to 1983 he served as Staff Radiotherapist and Deputy Chief
at the USAF Medical Center Keesler AFB in Mississippi.

In July of 1983 he went into private practice in Owensboro, Kentucky and is currently Medical
Director for the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center which
is a part of the Owensboro Medical Health Systems. He has also served as the Radiation Safety
Officer for the cancer center.  

During his 26 years in Owensboro he served in the United States Army Reserve from 1986 to
1991 where he rose to the rank of Full Colonel before retiring.  During his stint in the US Army
Reserve he was called to duty during Desert Storm for 6 months. In addition he was deployed on
three special missions in the Middle East. During his military career he earned several awards
and medals including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze
Service Star and the Air Force Commendation Medal.    

Also during his time in Owensboro he lectured at local organizations and societies and taught at
the local college.  In addition he was instrumental in establishing the Daniel Pitino Shelter and
the McCauley Free Clinic associated with the local Catholic Cathedral where he volunteered his
medical services for many years. He also served as Eucharistic Minister at the Cathedral. His
family was awarded the Outstanding Filipino Family in Chicago Illinois, as well as the
Distinguished Filipino Family by the Philippine Medical Association of Kentucky and Southern
Indiana. Tristan served as President of the MCU Class of 1966 Alumni Association.

Plans are currently underway for the construction of the Brio Medical Center which will house
several medical practices, including those of his children.  

Dr. Briones and his wife currently make their home in Newburgh, Indiana and continue to serve
as Medical Directors at their respective facilities.
