Nita hailed from Northern Luzon, Philippines, and is the eldest
daughter of four children of the late Sofia Mariano Ancheta, a
devoted housewife and a lay Catholic church minister, lead the
church Legion of Mary. Her mother married to the late Jose Gabriel
Palting from Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Her father was a retired USAFFE,
a business man, and established a home photography. Nita
finished high school from Holy Spirit and graduated as a Nurse
from Chinese General Hospital. Later, she obtained her Bachelor of
Science in Nursing from Far Eastern University, May 1966. Her
dream was to be able to explore possibilities to work and travel to
the different places of America and the world. Nita migrated to
Philadelphia, PA in June 1966. She worked under the Exchange
Visitors Program at Temple University Hospital for a one year
contract until July 12, 1976.
Nita met Amadeo Leopldo Carreon Cacanindin,in July 1966, who was an active in the US Navy.
They got married in January 28, 1967 and is still married to the same loving man and live in the
Tidewater areas for 43 years. They are blessed with three loving children, two beautiful
daughters, and a handsome son, all are successful in their chosen careers. Nita's oldest
daughter, Marivic Cacanindin Adachi is an Ancillary Analyst at Kaiser Permanente, Honolulu, HI.
Marivic is married to Toru Adachi, a Hilton Hotel Regional Assistant Sales Director, in Honolulu, HI.
They have one daughter, Tiffany Victoria Adachi, a Boston College graduate with double majors,
Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Bachelor of Science in Philosophy, currently working as
Media Coordinator in LA. Nita's son, Richard Paul Cacanindin, is a Radiology Technician
specializing in Cat Scan, working at Sentara Virginia Beach and Bon Secour Hospital. He is
married to Dr. Vivian Mapanao-Cacanindin, working at Bennett Creek Medical Clinic. They have
one daughter, Zoe Cacanindin. Nita's youngest daughter, Rosalie Mae Cacanindin-Shepard, is a
Certified Registered Nurse- Anesthetist and is married to Louis W. Shepard, Jr. Senior Chief in
the Military. They have three daughters, Sofia Eloise, Helena, and Isabella Julliette Shepard.

When Nita started her 29 years of her Nursing Career in VA, at Lake Taylor City Hospital in
November 1967, she quickly moved from Staff Nurse, to Head Nurse, to Staffing Supervisor, and
then she was promoted to Nursing Coordinator. As a Nursing Coordinator, she met with the
Human Resources, the Assistant City Manager of Norfolk, and the Legal Adviser monthly to
assess the Nursing Departments hiring and firing process. Then, Nita became an Assistant
Director of Nursing at River Pointe Hospital, and then Director of Nursing at Heritage Hall, in
Virginia Beach, until she retired in Nursing, November 1992.

Simultaneously, Nita's Real Estate
career started in 1982 with Virginia
Heritage Realty, while working full-time
in Nursing, and a busy mother rasing a
family of three children, while her
husband was deployed to the
Mediterranean. Even as a part-
time sales and listing Agent, she
garnered several awards as top sales
and listing agent throughout the
year. Then, she joined Prudential
Decker/Towne Realty in 2005 to the
present time. Nita further attended
Alpha College of Real Estate, where
she earned her designation as
Accredited Buyers Representative,
(ABR) and had been a recipient of
Silver and Leading Edge Awards. She
is a member of the Hampton Roads
Realtors Associations (HRRA) Circle of
Excellence.

In 2006, Nita launched a small
business venture, as the
President/CEO, of the AJC
International, Inc., a Global Staffing,
deploying overseas workers across
the globe, but mostly market to the
Caribbean, Turks and Caicos Islands,
to help and enhance a better living of
the unemployed Filipinos from the
Philippines. Nita and her husband,
Paul always works as a team in all of
their venues.

Nita truly believes in giving back her
volunteerism to the community. She
currently serves as the 1st Executive
Vice President of the Council of
United Filipino Organization of
Tidewater Inc. (CUFOT) for the past six years. CUFOT was established 35 years ago. CUFOT is an umbrella of twenty-
three other regional organizations and is dedicated to raise funds and maintain the Philippine Cultural Center (PCC)
of Virginia. Nita is in charge of the volunteer programs and the rental coordinator of the PCC. Recently, Nita
chaired the 10th Anniversary of the PCC of VA celebrations in collaboration to the 112th Philippine Independence
Day in Virginia, a very successful, well attended affair. In 1983 and 1984, Nita was the 6th President of the United
Ilocano Association of Tidewater, Inc. (UIAT). Nita led the UIAT into the fast lane, made the organization very visible
by participating in the Norfolk annual Harborfest and Fest Events at Waterside. These two events required two full
weekends of chopping, and slicing ingredients for pancit, fried rice, lumpia, pork and beef barbecue that were sold
during the events, which served as a very productive fundraising for the club and for the Philippine Cultural Center.
Nita launched the Youth Awareness Programs in 1983 to enhance the enthusiasms of the children. At the same time,
she initiated the formation of the monthly to weekly dance clinic that was conducted by members and dance
instructors. In May 20, 1984, Nita started he first Career Day for high school students. UIAT was buzzing with
fundraising activities, with organized Atlantic City trips.

In 2001-2003, Nita broke the record of Leadership for a three year term of Presidency of the Filipino Women's Club of
Tidewater. She exceeded her goals with a goal of $79,000.00 donations and credits in kind, to the Philippine Cultural
Center of VA. $2048.00 was donated to the other six charitable recipients, such as the Children's Hospital of the
Kings Daughter, American Cancer Society, Operation Smile, Home of the Disabled Children, Children's Foundation, and
Star of the Sea. $1000.00 was donated to the School of Creative of Performing Arts.

Nita gave her personal donations of $2000.00 to the Filipino American Historical National Society. Nita and her
husband Paul, donated a large sum of money, $10,000.00, towards the State of the Art, Sounds, and Lighting
Systems of the Philippine Cultural Center.

In 2005-present, Nita is the current President of the Philippine Nurses for Cultural Advancement, geared in working
collaboratively with other Health Care Organizations and Professionals to administer the free Health and Preventive
Programs held twice a year at the Philippine Cultural Center. The programs is offered to member organizations and to
the public for free cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure checks, flu shots, and other health services done by
nurses, doctors, and medical technologists.

From 1980-present, Nita is a lifetime member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Virginia. She is also chairs the
membership committee, and assistant Treasurer.

In 2010, Nita is the Business Manager of the Filipino-American Friendship Day. Fil-Am Friendship Day is celebrated on
July 4th , annually with approximately, 5,000-8,000 people in attendance. Fil-Am Friendship day is a whole day affair,
various cultural and traditional presentations, food, dances, parades, sports, and the likes.

    candidates, we raised a total of $37,030.57. The money was for the maintenance and mortgage payments, of
    the Philippine Cultural Center. Mrs. Philippines Pageant is the main fundraising for the Philippine Cultural Center.


Nita has a strong Christian faith. The motto Nita lives by is “The Golden Rule, Do on to others, what you would like
other do on to you,” a legacy willed to her by her parents, prioritized the value of education, hard work, respect, and
always helps and give to the less fortunate people, and to never expect anything back in return. Keeping her strong
faith alive at all times and through hard work , she believes God will provide. Nita's passion of giving and forgiving, a
legacy that she wants to impart to her children and grandchildren. Nita and her husband had helped and donated
their hard earned money to prevent home foreclosures to two Filipino families in the community and donated $3200
to Bicol calamity, through Wowowee in 2007.

In closing, Nita and her family, would like to extend sincere thanks to Mr. Nonoy and Mrs. Aida Mendoza and children,
for spear heading the annual celebrations, of Twenty Outstanding Filipinos Abroad (TOFA), recognizing their
accomplishments and unique talents of Filipinos of different parts of the globe. More power to Mr. Nonoy and Mrs. Aida
Mendoza and the Roxanne Andrea Mendoza (RAM) Memorial Foundation, in your mission of “HELPING OTHERS TO
HELP OTHERS.” We would like to donate $1000 to RAM Foundation and Feed the Hungry in support to make a
difference!
