Salute to the 13th Annual 2006 Chicago Hall of Fame
Chicago, Nov 12 - Seventeen achievers Filipinos and three Friends of Filipinos were honored
at the 13th annual event sponsored by the monthly Filipino VIA TIMES NEWS Magazine, on its
24th years of circulations and the Chicago Philippine Reports (CPRTV), on its 17 years of
television broadcasting serving the Filipinos in the Midwestern seaboard. The gala banquet
and ball was held last night at the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel.
Heading the 2006 batch of distinguished honorees is Mr. Nonoy Mendoza of Washington,
D.C., as CPRTV and VIA TIMES' "MAN OF THE YEAR" Mr. Mendoza is the president and CEO of
both FILIPINO IMAGE Magazine and the currently much-talked about PINOY GLOBAL ON LINE
NEWS, a 24/7 news and information source for Filipinos around the word; both companies
are based in Washington, D.C. "WOMAN OF THE YEAR " is Dr. Felicitas Ramos of Chicago, a
distinguished physician who retired last Jan. 31 of this year as a full Colonel in the Illinois
Army National Guard. Other honorees are Mr. Vic Camua of Phoenix, Arizona "Community
Leadership (National). Ms. Norma Baja of New York, "International Woman of Goodwill" and
wife of Philippine Ambassador to the UN, Ambassador Lauro Baja.; Ms. Rina Lopez -Bautista of
Manila, Philippines, "Peace Builder International Award; Mr. Toti Fuente, International Award
in Music; Dr.Christopher Guerrero, Medicine; Mr. Edizon R. Dayao, Music/Entertainment; Ms.
Desiree Echavez-Alfon, Heritage/Cultural; Mr. Jose "Jojo" Quiroz, Business; Mr. Joe Reyes,
Broadcast Media; Mr. Ricl Rodriguez, Ballroom Dance Education; Ms. Marie Rosete, Nursing; Mr.
Ruben Salazar, Community Leadership; Ms. Sherie Sloane, Young Achiever in Visual Art; Mr.
Romeo Tabuena, International Award in Visual Art; Mr. Larry Wert, Friend of the Filipinos in
Media; Ms. Lily Liu, Most Outstanding Asian; and, Mr. Robert Gard, Friend of the Filipinos in
Immigration Law.
