Deputy Consul General Mary Jo Bernanrdo Aragon is a career diplomat with the rank of Chief of Mission II.
She joined the Foreign Service twenty-seven yeas ago.
Before assuming her post at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, Mrs. Aragon held the
position of Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (2005-2006). Other position held in the Home
Office were as Special Assistant to the Undersecretary for Administration (2001-2005 and 1992-1994),
Executive Director of the Office of Policy Planning and Coordination (1990-1991), Principal Assistant and
then as Acting Director of the Office of Policy Planning and Coordination (1979-1982).
In the Foreign Service, Mrs. Aragon served at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York from
1994 to 2001, as Minister Counselor, then as Minister and finally as Deputy Permanent Representative. Her
first posting was at the Philippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgium and the Philippine Mission to the
European Communities from 1982 to 1990, as Third Secretary and Vice-Consul, then as Second Secretary
and Consul General.
Mrs. Aragon earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Schiller College in Bonnigheim,
Germany and London, UK, and a diploma in International Relations from the University of London, UK.
Born in Manila, Mrs. Aragon is married and has one daughter.
