The Outstanding Filipinos Abroad (TOFA 2)

It has been my obsession that at least before  I really advance more  in my "senior" years, to
one day spearhead a project that will assist my fellow Filipino compatriots to have a
permanent "niche" or tie up with our Motherland, the Philippines.  I am one concrete example
of easily being swayed to the ways of our adopted country. I left the Philippines in 1953 three
months before turning 18 to pursue education  in the U.S.
But,
Praise the Lord!  My  calling  from high school to college to graduate studies to countless
seminars and studies always lead me back to finding ways of reaching out to the Philippines
and the Filipinos.

I beg for your pardon when I may sound egotistic, but my intention is not to brag but rather
to cite one Filipino's determination to struggle in order  to succeed in his endeavors.  My
college's days at the University of San Francisco in California required my being a working
student. In order to succeed, I  was  led  towards developing skills and knowledges --- thus,
affording me to learn extensively and comprehensively the many facets in the mainstream
community. But,
Praise the Lord! --whatever job I held,  I  always landed as one of the top
achievers or the top achiever ---
the number one honcho.

The first lucrative paying job I held was with the computer industry since our class was the
first to graduate in computer in the mid-50's at  San Francisco Technical School.  I  quit  after
being bored of the machines but before quitting, I was extensively introduced to various
seminars and practical trainings, including techniques and strategy in sales, organizations,
time and motion studies, in-and-out  field management trainings, and other interesting
subjects on the ladder of one of those  being eyed  by the management  for future
advancement. My second  lucrative job was more challenging as a sales representative with
the life and health insurance industry. Graduating with top honors in insurance, my first
month in the field of more than 20,000 representatives  made  me
"Man of the Month" in
sales.  The succeeding months were all financially rewarding and successful.  The sales
commissions and merchandise rewards were more than sufficient.  I maintained being in the
Top Twenty of both the United of Omaha and United of Omaha until  I  got bored.  In the
insurance industry,  I took  all the seminars, all practical and formal training classes in all
phases, and developed being an avid reader and  follower of the motivational movements of
the time.

When it was time for me to change career,  I  joined
The Manila Chronicle, a Manila daily
newspaper with a multi-million daily circulations owned by the wealthy Lopez clan. Journalism
being my passion -- writing on the university's newspapers  as well as in the Filipino monthly
journals of the era,  I  was appointed as the Bureau Chief and Manager of  Pacific Northwest
and Canada. One of  my main  functions  was simply to report anything on any subject  that
had to do with the Philippines and the Filipinos in the assigned vast areas,  more  specially
following the trails of Filipino professionals  who  opted  to stay overseas  instead of going
back  to the Philippines as most of them were supposed to do.  I was with the Manila
Chronicle  when the
Philippine Air Lines persuaded me to join them.  My assignment was
simple: develop personal contact with as  many Filipino leaders in the United States, Canada,
Mexico and other countries in the North American Continent.  My third and last venture was
highly successful as an entrepreneur concentrating heavily on the Filipino market.
The rest is
now history.

It is very logical that with the vast global Filipino professionals and domestics manifesting
their talents and determination to succeed be recorded and encouraged.  Thus, inspiring and
creating role models  proving that  Filipino talents can compete with any other race or creed
and attain prominence and succeed  in any professions  or  fields. That  anything a Filipino's
mind can  conceived --- the Filipino can achieved!  Of course, without saying, with the
guidance and help of Our Lord - - the powerful, the merciful and the almighty God: anything
and everything is possible!

Our mission now is global: the
North and South Americas, the Middle East, the European
countries,  the
Asian countries,  including  the Philippines.  In the forthcoming issues,  we
