THE antigraft court may go after the assets of Joseph Estrada’s

The P500,000-cash bribes stashed in brown gift bags handed to
congressmen and local executives didn’t come from the governors’
league, nor from President Arroyo’s political party Kampi (Kabalikat ng
Malayang Pilipino) but from the intelligence and counterinsurgency funds
of the Philippine National Police (PNP) — at least P160 million worth in
cash — further bolstering charges that the cash bribes were handed out
with the knowledge and consent of Mrs. Arroyo, having allegedly taken
this from the police intelligence budget, over which she exercises control.

press time after an injured aide of Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar, who was

of a political turncoat. However, political turncoatism has been around
since the Revolution of 1896 when switching allegiance was not
uncommon among the followers of Katipunan "Supremo" Andres Bonifacio
and his rival Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. Bonifacio was the leader of the
Magdalo faction of the Katipunan which he founded and Aguinaldo was
the leader of the Magdiwang faction, a splinter group of the Katipunan.
