The 1st People’s Mass or Misa ng Bayan under the auspices of the Migrant Heritage
Commission (MHC) was held on February 25, 2006  in cooperation with Birhen ng Antipolo,
Inc. to celebrate the 100 Years of Filipino Migration to the U.S. The mass, held at the Basilica
of the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C., was celebrated by Rev.
Monsignor Cecilio Rotor  and was a highly attended event  by immigrants/ Fil-Ams  from
various sectors and Fil-Am organizations.  The 2nd People’s Mass was held at the St. Michael
the Archangel Church in Silver Spring, MD and the 3rd People’s Mass was held back in
Washington D.C. at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament with the Most Reverend
Bishop Martin D. Holley as the main celebrant.

An annual event of the Migrant Heritage Commission  (MHC) with the support of  various Fil-
Am organizations.  Participants and attendees are from various sectors, organizations as
well as from  the Embassy of the Philippines.
2009 MHC Event Partner : Filipino Community of St. Rose of Lima in cooperation with  the
Knights of Columbus Santo Nino Council 9462, Fil-Am Ministry of St. Michael in Silver Spring
MD, Filipino Community of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington D.C. and  the El
Shaddai Catholic Charismatic Group of St. Stephen in DC.

A unique celebration of unity and God's grace  of
the Fil-Am Community  to thank our Creator for the
continuous blessings  and guidance for sustained
Immigration of the Filipinos to the U.S.  In line with
Migrant Heritage Commission’s institutional
programs,  it is also  a way of honoring and
saluting the Filipino Migrants for their vital
contributions to the US society and in helping
sustain the Philippine economy.

The very 1st MISA NG BAYAN (People’s Mass) in
Metropolitan Washington D.C. was initiated  in
1998 by Rev. Fr. Steve de Leon,SVD with Atty.
Arnedo S. Valera, Mr. Ramon Llamas & other key
members of the Fil-Am community   at  Christ the
King Church  in Silver Spring, MD in conjunction with
the 1998 Philippine Centennial Celebration.
