crashed into the Atlantic Ocean on the evening of May 31 (Brasilia time).

The Filipino was identified as Arden Jugueta, a seafarer whose vessel docked in Rio de Janeiro and who was

The French Foreign Ministry notified the Philippine Embassy in Paris of the Filipino seafarer’s identity.
Similarly, Mr. Jugueta’s ship manning company confirmed that he was on board Air France Flight 447.

The Paris main offices of Air France and the local shipping agency have communicated with the family of Mr.

Shanghai People’s Political Consultative Congress Vice Chairwoman Wu Youying
Begins Visit to Philippines Today

2 June 2009—Madame Wu Youying, Vice Chairwoman of Shanghai’s China People’s Political Consultative
Congress (CPPCC) arrived in the Philippines today on a three-day visit.

Madame Wu leads a six-person delegation and is in Manila to open the Shanghai 360º Photo Exhibit that
opened today at the SM Mall of Asia, with Vice President Noli de Castro.

On exhibit are nearly 50 photos taken by Chinese photographers offering a panoramic view of life in
Shanghai.

The Shanghai 360º Photo Exhibit was previously shown in London, South Africa and several other cities in
Europe and is envisioned to be an expression of the city’s warm invitation to the people of the Philippines to
visit Shanghai, especially during the 2010 World Expo which will be held from 1May – 31 October 2010.

During her stay in Manila, Madame Wu will call on Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim. Manila is a sister city of Shanghai.

Madame Wu will also meet with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez expressed her appreciation to the
various organizations that have made the visit and the exhibit a possibility.

“The Consulate General and the CPPCC Shanghai have made preparations for this event for some time now
and I am happy that the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. has agreed
to help organize the exhibit. This is all the more important since Shanghai will be hosting the World Expo 2010
and that the Philippines will be participating in it with a 2,000 square meter pavilion with the theme
“Performing Cities,” said Consul General Sanchez.

She likewise added that the Philippines is one of the top ten sources of tourism for Shanghai. Similarly, there
has been a marked and sustained increase of Shanghainese visiting the Philippines.

Despite the scare about the H1N1 flu, business, tourism and people-to-people exchanges continue to grow
and flourish between the Philippines and Shanghai. END

Quezon City Builds Relations with Chinese City Nanjing

2 June 2009—Quezon City Mayor Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, Jr., together with ten members of the Quezon
City Council and officials from the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai, visited Nanjing City in Jiangsu
Province on June 1 to establish a sister-city relationship between Quezon City and Nanjing City.

During his meeting with Nanjiang Mayor Wang Shouwen, Mayor Belmonte expressed his desire to raise the
level of ties between Quezon City and Nanjing and to ultimately establish sister-city relations.

Mayor Belmonte underscored the importance that a relationship with this leading Chinese city could bring to
Quezon City in terms of technology cooperation, trade, investment, tourism and education.

Both sides identified potential areas of cooperation such as energy efficient technologies particularly solar
technology, education exchange, health and wellness, information and communications technology,
investment in the new Commercial Business District, mass housing, and anti-pollution technology.

Nanjing is one of the production bases for light automobiles and motorcycles in China. It is also one of the
largest petrochemical industry bases of China, its overall production capacity ranking second in the country.
Nanjing’s electronics and information industry is strong in both scientific research and production and ranks
second among all cities in China.

The visit of the delegation comes at the heels of three delegations sent by Nanjing to the Philippines to
promote sister-city relations with Quezon City: the visits of officials from the Southeast University of Nanjing,
Nanjing Tourism Bureau and the most recent being the visit of Nanjing CPPCC Vice Chairman Huang Huang.
