Comparative peace forum slated at Rockwell Sept 30

MANILA, SEPTEMBER 4— A comparative peace forum will highlight the celebration of the month-long peace observance with a series of lectures by internationally renowned peace advocates at the Ateneo Professional Schools in Rockwell, Makati City on Sept. 30.
Invited speakers are Singaporean Kelvin Ong, senior political affairs of the Mediation Support Unit of the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations, and Prof. Edmundo G. Garcia, senior policy advisor of International Alert.
The forum is jointly sponsored by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), Supreme Court, the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA) and the Ateneo Law School.
Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Avelino I. Razon, together with OPAPP Unersecretaries Nabil Tan and Cesar Pedro Ramboanga met with Supreme Court Justice Adolfo Azcuña; Justice Marina L. Buzon of the Philippine Judicial Academy and Atty. Sedfrey M. Candelaria of the Ateneo Law School to plan for the upcoming forum on “Comparative Peace Processes and their Relevance to the Philippine Setting.”
The forum will be beamed live via video-teleconferencing from the Ateneo Auditorium in Makati to Ateneo de Davao in Southern Philippines and the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City in Western Visayas.
Razon said the forum is part of the Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno Distinguished Lecture Series aimed at sharing peace paradigm models adopted in other countries
The forum will also discuss thoroughly the peace concepts, best practices and models for peace-building work, including lessons learned from the implementation of peace processes with various insurgent groups, according to Renia Corocoto, OPAPP director for disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR).
The affair will conclude the celebration commemorating the National Peace Consciousness Month with the theme: “Una sa Lahat, Kapayapaan: Putting the Peace Agenda Forward.”
