RP Consulate-General in Xiamen and Friends Celebrate Christmas

Philippine Consul General to Xiamen Raul S. Hernandez hosted a dinner for the Consulate General’s friends from the government, consular community and business sector at his official residence last December 23.
Among those present during the party were Vice-Chairperson of the Xiamen People’s Congress Chen Zhao Yang, Deputy Director of the Xiamen Foreign Affairs Office Li Xiao Ping and his assistant Mr. Johnny Zhang, Director General of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs of the Xiamen People’s Congress Chen Yu Dong, Consul General of Singapore Madame Tee Bee Lock, Consul General of Thailand Mr. Jesada Chavarnbhark and a number of prominent local Chinese, Chinese-Filipinos and expatriate businessmen in Xiamen.
Officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate-General in Xiamen were also present during the gathering. A total of 40 guests attended the party.
In his welcome remarks, Consul General Hernandez mentioned that he organized the gathering not solely to celebrate Christmas but also to celebrate the year that was and thank everyone for the camaraderie.
He said that the friendship that the Philippine Consulate General had with the Chinese government officials, fellow diplomats and network of friends from the business sector was instrumental to the success of the Consulate General’s projects in 2009.
The evening’s guest of honor, Vice Chair Chen for his part commended the Consul General’s efforts in further strengthening the good relations between the Philippines and China through initiating various activities such as the dinner-gathering and assured the continued support of his office to the Philippine Consulate General and to the other two resident Consulates General in Xiamen. He also offered his assistance to the other guests should they need it.
The dinner also became an occasion to showcase Philippine cuisine and Filipinos talent for music as guests were treated to authentic Filipino dishes, which were prepared by Madame Ana Hernandez and Consulate- General staff while being serenaded by Filipino singers, Ms. Vicky Salcedo of Pan Pacific Hotel and Mr. Eric Malilim of Bestwestern Hotel - END

Filipino Peacekeepers in Haiti Recognized

Filipino troops serving with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) salute as the Philippine national anthem is being played during awarding ceremonies for members of the 10th Philippine Peacekeeping Contingent under Army Lt. Col. Lope Dagoy in Port-au-Prince last December 30.

DFA Turns Over Donation of Lebanese Businessman to DSWD

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) turned over six boxes of new clothing from a Lebanese business to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for the victims of disasters yesterday.
Receiving the donation from Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon Gilberto G.B. Asuque (fourth from right) is the DSWD Donation Facilitation Unit Head Elma Pille (third from left).
Present during the ceremony are (from left) DFA Office of Intelligence and Security Services Principal Assistant Ferdinand Flores, DFA Office of Personnel and Administrative Services Acting Director Dominic Xavier Imperial, DSWD Financial Services Administrative Officer Fe Ea, DFA Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs (DFA-OUMWA) Executive Director Atty. Enrico Fos and DFA-OUMWA Principal Assistant Maurice Tiempo.
The donation is from Mr. Tony Khoury, a Lebanese garments manufacturer. The first three boxes were included in the luggage of the Filipino repatriates who arrived from Lebanon yesterday. Philippine Embassy in Prague Celebrates 113th Rizal Day

Philippine Ambassador to the Czech Republic Regina Irene P. Sarmiento said that the Philippine Embassy in Prague celebrated the 113th anniversary of the martyrdom of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal with a showing of the award-winning film, “Rizal”, at the chancery in Senovazne namesti 8, Prague.
Members of the Filipino community in the Czech Republic and the Knights of Rizal and some locals, including reporters from the Czech media outfit, Aktualne.cz came to watch the film.
A Filipino buffet of pancit, biko, lumpia, empanada and chicken was served to the guests with wine to spice up the celebration.
After the refreshments, the audience also watched the latest fight of Philippine boxing icon Manny Pacquiao where he demolished Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.
The Embassy also donated cultural materials for display at the Rizal-Blumentritt permanent bastion in Litomerice to mark the occasion.END
