8 January 2010 - In commemoration of the 113th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine
Consulate General enjoined all Filipinos in the CNMI to reflect on the life, teachings and martyrdom of our
National hero.

The Consulate posted in the consular section a short biography of Dr. Jose Rizal and reprinted some of his
famous literary works such as Sa Aking Mga Kababata, Ang Awit ni Maria Clara and Mi Ultimo Adios.

During the celebration, Consulate officers and staff had a brief discussion on the life and teachings of the
Filipino national hero.

Of particular interest to the teen-age guests was Rizal’s Mi Ultimo Adios while primary school children were
impressed by “Sa Aking mga Kababata”, a poem Rizal wrote when he was only eight years old. The poem
contains the famous lines “Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa hayop at malansang isda”.

Meanwhile, the rector of Mt. Carmel Fr. Ryan Jimenez cha Chaipersons of Diocese of Chalan Kanoa Jubilee
Committee Fr. Ike Ayuyu and Charles and Cathy Cepeda, visited the Consulate last January 5 to invite the
Filipino community to the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa & the
Episcopal Ordination of the Most Rev. Tomas A. Camacho, D.D.

Several events have been lined up for the occasion with the jubilee theme of “Fiat Voluntas Tua” or Thy Will Be
Done.

The events includes the Liturgy of the Hours and Novena to the Holy Spirit starting 09 January 2010 at 7 pm,
Thanksgiving mass on 17 January 2010 at 3 p.m. and Fundraiser Banquet at Garden, Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Philippine Consul General to Saipan Medardo G. Macaraig assured committee leaders of the Consulate’s
assistance and in informing the Filipino community of the celebration.

The Diocese of Chalan Kanoa has been very supportive of the activities and programs of the Consulate and the
Filipino community including the memorial mass in honor of former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino and in
raising funds for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng. END
