Pilipinas tataas ang sex tourism, dahil sa gutom
 
DAHIL sa paglala ng kahirapan at kagutuman sa bansa, naniniwala ang isang militateng Kongresista na
tataas ang “sex tourism” ng bansa.


Sa paliwanag ni Gabriela Rep.  Luzviminda Ilagan at bilang tugon na rin sa  dukumentaryo na ginawa ng  
Canadian Broadcasting Corp. na may pamagat na  “Confronting evil” na tumalakay sa pagtaas ng bilang ng
mga kababaihan na may edad na 15 hanggang 18 na  pumapasok sa kalakaran ng pagbebenta ng aliw,
maraming kababaihan na pikit matang papasok sa merkado ng pagbebenta ng laman upang may
ipangtustos lamang sa kumakalam na sikmura.


Sinabi pa ng Kongresista na magpapatuloy pa ang nasabing kalakaran, dahil na rin sa paghina ng
ekonomiya ng bansa. “Poverty in the rural areas will make more young girls vulnerable to sex trafficking.
Runaways are increasing, as they dream of a better life only to fall prey to predators.”


Nalulungkot ang Kongresista sa pagdagsa ng mga turista sa bansa, hindi dahil sa magagandang
destinasyon ng Pilipinas, bagkus ang pagtangkilik sa bentahan ng laman mula sa murang katawan ng mga
Pilipinang biktima ng kahirapan.


“This is very sad.  But a seasonal prostitution is common among those who want to finish schooling but can't
due to financial problems,” sabi ni Ilagan.


Nanawagan naman si  Cotabato Rep. Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza sa  Judiciary  na lakihan ang  multa ng mga
“convicted sex offenders” partikular na ang mga “child rapists”,  bilang kabayaran sa kahalayan na ginawa sa
biktima.


Paliwanag ni Taliño-Mendoza  na ang isang biktima ng panggagahasa ay  "psychologically battered, thereby
lessening considerably her chances of living a full and normal life."


"In a way, a child loses a big part of her life even if she physically survives a rape, and for this, she deserves
greater restitution," dagdag pa ni Taliño-Mendoza.


Sa kasalukuyan nakakatanggap lamang ng P150,000 ang isang biktima kabilang na dito ang P75,000 sa  
civil indemnity, P50,000 sa moral damage at P25,000 at exemplary damages.



"The sum is simply insufficient," ani Taliño-Mendoza.
