5th Annual PEOPLE’S MASS (MISA NG BAYAN) set 6 February 2010

In celebration of the 104th year of Filipino Migration to the U.S., the Migrant Heritage Commission is inviting everyone to the 5th Annual People’s Mass or the 2010 MISA NG BAYAN on 6 February 2010, Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the historic St. Matthew’s Cathedral, the seat of the Archdiocese of Washington D. C. It is located at 1725 Rhode Island Ave, NW, Washington D.C. 20036 (near the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. ) The Misa ng Bayan is the Fil-Am community’s biggest inspiring Eucharistic Celebration for Unity and Service.
The once-a-year special event, organized by the Migrant Heritage Commission (MHC) in cooperation with various Fil-Am organizations, brings together community leaders and key members, MHC volunteers & Envoys for Unity and Service/ friends to thank our Creator for the continuous blessings and guidance for sustained Immigration of the Filipinos to the U.S. In line with MHC’s institutional programs, it is a way of honoring and saluting the Filipino Migrants for their vital contributions to the US society and in helping sustain the Philippine economy. The main celebrant is the Most Reverend Bishop Martin Holley of the Archdiocese of Washington D.C. with Rev. Fr. Andy Gonzalo (Spiritual Director of the El Shaddai Charismatic Group of St. Stephen in D.C.), Rev. Fr. Pete Literal (Spiritual Director of the Fil-Am Ministry of St. Michael in Silver Spring MD), Rev. Fr. Gary Villanueva & Rev. Fr. Willie Jones Ducusin (St. Mary’s Church in Rockville, MD) and Rev. Fr. Christopher G. Dumadag S.J. of Baltimore MD (Spiritual Director of the FilCom of the Blessed Sacrament in DC.)
One of the event’s highlight will be the symbolic offerings by Fil-Am leaders/ key members that signify the importance of the Filipinos’ contributions to the progress of America and the Philippines. Another is the blessing of the newly designated MHC Envoys for Unity and Service who will amplify MHC’s mission and vision of unity and service in the community.
The special event will have the special participation of the Knights of Columbus (thru Santo Nino Council 9462) and the combined volunteer choir members from the following church-based groups: El Shaddai Catholic Charismatic Group of St. Stephen in DC, Fil-Am Ministry of St. Michael in Silver Spring,MD , Filipino Community of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Washington D.C., the Filipino Community of St. Rose of Lima in Gaithersburg, MD and the All for Jesus Choir of Christ the King Church in Silver Spring,MD.
