Vision of Prophet Obadiah. 1:10-12 Do you remember Esau in Genesis? The son of Isaac.? It seem nobody knows what happen to him?
Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever. On the day you stood aloof while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them. You should not look down on your brother in the day of misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble. Reflections: The Israelites had descended from Jacob, and the Edomites from Esau. Instead of helping the Israelites, the Edomites allow them to be destroyed and even plundered what was left behind. Edomites acted like an enemy, and for Obadiah, anyone who failed to help someone in need is a sin. This is what we called sin of omission. We should not ignore or refuse to help those in need.
We as citizen of the USA, has so much to appreciate and be proud of, we help those countries who need help. There are so many organizations, like UN, Lions International, Red Cross, KofC, and many others, who help the recent earthquake victims in Haiti.
