Ang Magnanakaw 101 - Touche!

Good morning class of Corruption 101, or in Filipino, Ang Magnanakaw 101.
In our last session we said that the mother of corruption is corruption of power. But we did not go to its whole structure, praxis and cure.
The first lesson today is that when one is elected or appointed to a position of fiduciary consequence, such as in government in the Philippines or Wall Street in New York, the body of corruption usually manifests in corruption involving money.
But our second learning is that it does not stop there. It is rooted on something. It usually starts when one is still applying for job for private employment or public appointment or election.
To get jobs, some people lie about their background and qualifications. They make it appear that they are qualified despite an empty resume.
Thus the root of corruption is corruption of the truth.
Anybody who has had an experience in teaching somewhat develop a nose for these type of people. Most liars, we catch when we ask them to do an essay about themselves or their beliefs, or when they speak about themselves and what they want to accomplish. Yes, written and oral quizzes - that is why we call them "tests".
The only cure for this kind of syndrome is expressed in my favorite quotation. This is also the favorite of Noynoy Aquino's father, Ninoy - it is a prescription that comes from Holy Scriptures or John 8: 32.
It goes this way in English "the truth shall make you free" or in Spanish "la Verdad os libertará".
So today, I leave you with a required reading below from one of Manila's credible opinion writers.
Goodbye for now, class.
