Solon supports teachers protest caravan on alleged unjust GSIS policies

Rep. Jonathan dela Cruz, the incumbent ABAKADA-Guro Party-list Representative and the party’s 1st nominee
in the May 2010 election,  is strongly supporting the teachers’ call to put an end to the alleged unjust, anti-
member and illegal policies crafted by the GSIS Board.

Dela Cruz, author of House Resolution 1530, is urging the House of Representatives to investigate several
policies of the GSIS deemed unjust and anti-member by teachers and other GSIS members.

“Among the policies sought to be reviewed are the Premium-Based Policy, Automatic Premium Loan Program
and the Claims and Loans Interdependency Program, all of which have proven to be inimical to the interests
of the vast majority of members,” dela Cruz said.  “We are mobilizing our members to join the protest caravan
not only to support the teachers’ mass action but also to challenge other political parties and candidates to
take up this very urgent issue affecting millions of government employees” dela Cruz.

“We, teachers and other government employees, want to place this issue at the forefront of the electoral
discourse,  if the incoming new set of government officials fails to act and resolve these issues immediately
then they do not deserve the people’s vote,” dela Cruz said in a press conference held at the National Press
Club.

Dela Cruz and his Party’s 3rd nominee, Arsenio Jallorina a veteran teacher and public servant, stressed that
teachers and other personnel in the vast government bureaucracy deserve better from the GSIS which,
for all intents and purposes, should be working for the members’ benefit not their own well endowed perks
and privileges.

“How can anyone expect us, teachers, to perform our job well and with passion if we have to contend every
working day with the misplaced and misguided policies of the GSIS?” Jallorina asked.

Jallorina is a petitioner in the case filed in court by the MPSTA against the GSIS which is now awaiting
resolution at the Court of Appeals.

About 2,000 teachers from different provinces of Luzon, other government employees and teachers’ rights and
welfare advocates supported by ABAKADA members  joined the protest caravan at the GSIS premises.

MASBATE, PHILIPPINES- Inambush ng New People's Army (NPA) ang dating United Nations (UN)
