WASHINGTON, D.C., Nov. 21 - The weekly MacArthur Boulevard Filipino Prayer Group is a

twelve years. The group never fails to meet every Wednesday evening in the 4200-4600 blocks
located in the various condominium complex in the Northwest of the District between two main
hospitals, Georgetown University Hospital and the Sibley Hospitals, where Filipinos in the
medical professions reside.
The closely knitted prayer group meets alternate in hosting from one residence to another.
Sumptuous potluck dinner is usually serve before Holy Rosary is said, followed by novena
prayer to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and prayer praising songs made popular by charismatic
prayer groups from the Philippines.
“It is the most important happening among Filipinos where everyone, young and old alike,
looked forward every Wednesday. We get the opportunity to meet one another and meet new
friends. We become brothers and sisters and are concerned of each other’s day-to-day life,”
explained one old-timer on condition of anonymity. “We share each other’s happiness.... and,
sadness. And we are sincere in respecting one another. I think we started around 1995.”
The Our Lady of Perpetual Help MacArthur Filipino Prayer Group (OLPHMFPG), as they fondly
want to be known, is composed of mostly young professionals: nurses, medical technologists,
office workers, I.T. professionals, architects, engineers, and other professionals-entrepreneurs.
Spearheaders of the prayer groups are Roger and Letty Jacinto, Norman and Meg Mallari, Elsie
and Rhoda Marte, Joey and Fatima Abeleda and many other. The prayer group’s church base is
