WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 19 - The First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team (FPMEE), led by former
Philippine Transportation Undersecretary Art Valdez and six members of the world-famous Pinoy Everest
mountaineers, gave a seven minute video documentary followed by a question-and-answer sessions tonight at
the Romulo Room of the Philippine Embassy in this city.
Attended by Filipino journalists and some Filipino and non-Filipino guests, the “Pulong Bayan Sa Embassy”
(town meeting at the Embassy) was very informative -- highlighting the trainings and eventually the successful
ascent of two Filipino mountaineers Leo Oracion and Pastour Emata, Art Valdez, answered most of the queries
of the audience.
The team is currently on tour to promote and raise funds for the planned 2007 Unity Climb to be headed by two
young Filipinas, Noelle Wenceslao and Carina Dayondon. The plan is one group will climb from Tibet side or
the north, and the other team from the south side originating from Nepal. The teams will have Art Valdez as team
manager who claims that the 2007 climb will be his last one as team leader. “I have fulfilled my dream of
climbing the highest mountain known to man. And that is enough for me,” stated the dynamic and energetic
organizer and himself a die-hard and successful mountaineer. #
