SKOKIE, IL, Nov. 6 (PGON) - Opening their mom-and-pop business in this town, 25 miles from
the buzzling and modern downtown Chicago, Lito and Anne (Baby) Valeroso had a vision of
hitting it big and successfully in the crowded ice cream and fast food business by targeting the
rapidly growing Filipino American community that surround Chicago’s suburbs.

Coming from Nueva Ecija, Philippines in 1967, Lito and Baby opened the first of their two outlets
called “Village Creamery - Homemade Ice Cream” in 2001 in this town crowded by Filipino
families. They now own another “Village Creamery” in Niles, Illinois, another Filipino-populated
town. “We plan, God willing, to open more “Village Creamery” just around the towns in the
State of Illinois where there are Filipino families residing,” humbly and shyly stated Lito.

What is unique with the “Village Creamery” is their homemade ice creams duplicated to the
taste buds of Filipinos who love ice cream. “Their halo-halo (mixed) ice creams with several
native ingredients all mixed and serve in a generous portion is even better than the one serve
in Manila or other parts of the Philippines,” commented Mrs. Norma Castro Baja, charming wife
of the recently reassigned Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New
York, Ambassador Lauro L. Baja, and now Philippine Special Envoy with the Department of
Foreign Affairs in Manila and who is currently visiting various regions in the United States calling
on Filipino community leaders as part of his leave. #
